A few things for vehicles

First of all.....I know the developers already are waiting to release V 0.5 instead, and that's awesome!! Just a few notes for the future I though you'd like to know. I'm not sure if this has been discussed - didn't see it anywhere else or I wouldn't post this.

It occurred to me today as I was practicing on a empty server that the impact from a pistol bullet will actually move a Humvee, Tank and APC (I'm sure other vehicles as well). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I highly doubt a pistol is going to move an entire vehicle, especially a tank. The reaction time of bullet impact and vehicle movement is also about 0.5 seconds. If possible, that should be corrected (if you even want to have that effect in the game). Also, when vehicles are destroyed and on fire, I find I am not hurt at all by standing right in the middle of the fire.....hopefully there is a way to rework that.

Humvees I find (and other vehicles as well) have a very low tolerance for water, it seems they don't like to be in water any deeper two feet or so. Why would these be equipped with a snorkel system if they are only allowed to go in water two feet deep?? A stock H1 can forge 30 inches of water, I know a military grade Humvee can do better. They also need a better gearing system. I know someone discussed this with tanks and APC's, but Humvees should be allowed to navigate through much rougher terrain.

Effects: these seem too minor for real life situations. Dust from a vehicle driving on a sandy dirt road would stay in the atmosphere much longer than in this game. There would also be more volume of dust in the air than is shown. Same goes for helicopters as they land/hover over land and water (even the Little Bird). Vehicles going through water would definitely create more splash and a larger wake than in the game at this time. For a Humvee, the water (if allowed to be in deeper water) should be moving slightly over the hood.

I still say that the vehicles (at least Humvees) have their windows rolled up, or at least for the driver. Also, instead of having the troops sit in the very back, why not make room in those 3 extra seats??

Helicopters - I know there has been a huge and somewhat heated discussion for the Spec Ops class. Well this relates to all classes. How bout instead of making a helicopter (no matter what kind) actually land, why not have rope stream down from those in the passenger position? Would allow for a quicker drop of troops and a safer passage for a helicopter. This could be deployed by the pilot/copilot. Speaking of which, it would be quite nice to have a copilot required to fly any helicopter (the copilot's role could be for navigation/lights/notification of altitude/hostile threats/spotting/ropes as discussed before....etc...).

Lights - I'm not sure if night maps will ever come back, but it would be nice (even for maps in dusk type of lightning) if headlights would be an option for vehicles (as well as instrument lights just for an effect). I know that is probably a lot of work, but just an idea.

So just a start for now, before getting any more detailed I want to see what others think of these ideas.

I like a couple of those ideas, I want to see what devs will say.

Oh man, I totally agree with the enviromental effects from vehicals. It would be awsome to see a large armored force moving with a sand storm behind it :-D

yeah we definitely need more dust flying when a vehicle is moving on a desert. And the helicopters, they like make a damn sand storm when they land.
I'll try to find a vid.
edit: here is one vid, couldn't find the one I was looking for but this is ok too.

The pistol moving a tank is a very minor issue as few people here have ever seen that occur and it does not distract from gameplay.

To use the other seats in a Humvee will require remodeling it (since one seat is taken up by a box) This is planned by the devs to make a close backed uhmvee anyway but it is not done yet.

Apparently nobody has yet figured out a way to make fast-ropes on helicopters and it has come up many times.

Headlights are not supported by the engine so that will not work.

I would like to see more dust and smoke from burning wrecks as well.

When hearing close backed humvee... why not just take the US:I one?

AFAIK the devs aren't even trying. No point since in bf2 the rotor blades (is that what you call them?) can't collide with other objects so you don't really need fastroping because you can just land the blackhawk on the street you want to get to.

Personally I love the high speed touch and goes. Down with fast roping, Crazy flying FTW!

Headlights, afaik, are restricted by the engine.

There is a particle limit in the bf2 engine. So if more dust was created by the vehicles there might be major lag or might not work.

just a guestimate......

wait till wat the devs say...

I have only experienced smoke lag once when about 10+ smoke grenades were dropped and I could not see anything anyway.
