Re: Mobile mortars

This is a suggestion, not a community modding project.
Not much, just some coding to prevent stationary mortars + mobile ones. Are you hinting that you do have a nice model? Preferably we would need one for all kinds of factions.Chuva_RD wrote:DEVs, if you will have some nice models what will prevent adding this assets?
[R-DEV]Ninja2dan wrote:The vehicle originally suggested (the M106) isn't used much anymore, if at all. Although there is the M125 version that carries the 81mm, the M106 uses the larger 120mm mortar.
The M106 family of mortar carriers has mostly been replaced by the M1129 Stryker Mortar Carrier, which still retains the 120mm mortar.
The difference between using a stationary mortar such as those seen in PR and the Mortar Carrier vehicle platform is that the mortars we use in PR are intended to represent those carried by infantry support teams. The M1129 and similar systems are operated by FA units, usually part of a rearward section just like the howitzers.
Using a Mortar Carrier in PR would fall under the same conditions of introducing SP howitzers and even stationary guns, which would not be located in forward areas that PR simulates.

Maps like Khami could be useful...
I would support if:All i can see is people driving it 50m-100m from their mains DoD, and quickly re-arm it.
- Limit the ammo to like 5 rounds HE, 5 or 10 smoke.
- Make it 2 crewed, or 3.
- Make the speed a bit slower then tanks.
- Only 1 avaliable on the map it's in.
Every map has that flat land close to main...Fir3w411 wrote:Bold.
Not sure if it's even possible but it would need something to level the mortar, because pretty sure finding perfectly level surfaces will be pretty hard, especially for long range fire missions.
It happens 95% of the time on Jabal... the MEC places in that little intersection.... All the time. That is why commander is so useful on that map for the US, as well as the MEC. Remember: the US has to get choppers to drop them off at East Beach, cap it and get the logi.mehason wrote:I remember round on Jabal when MEC quickly built mortars near their main and their commander started spotting US fobs and mortars. So MEC were dominating US mortars full round. I mean, if u built mortars faster than enemy, you can dominate them full round by quick spotting them from UAV. It's take much time to build a FOB then mortar digging it few minutes, this time enough to be spotted by the UAV and be killed.
In that case could they be added to the insurgent faction as mortars on pickup trucks? Insurgents don't have a UAV so if the blufor team has a commander and dedicated mortar team it can be nearly impossible to set up your own mortars. This truck could balance it out and give the insurgents more options (which they sometimes have very few of because of a lack of rally points, scopes, and spawnable limited kits). I'm not saying that the insurgents are underpowered and I know that they win most rounds but I do think they could use more toys to give them more strategic options.[R-DEV]Rabbit wrote:I'm going to quote ninjadan on this one.
I've had the exact same opposite happen to me, on multiple ocasions. We set up the mortars in those hills east of East Beach, and with the help of an awesome commander, we completely destroyed the enemy mortar squad. They tried to hit us a couple of times, but they were always about 70 meters short because they weren't accounting for height.mehason wrote:I remember round on Jabal when MEC quickly built mortars near their main and their commander started spotting US fobs and mortars. Darman1138 wrote:Eh...I'd rather see a portable mortar that would be available in a Mortar Operator kit that could fire somewhere around 350-450 meters. That way the Mortar Pits we have still have the long range (1500m) and do more damage, but the Mortar Operator would have portability while having less damage and range.
