Thanks to a long standing community member here in the forums, I have managed to get my PR going again, and it is still one of the best games out there, thanks to the devs as usual.

This was due to the fact he could send me an ISO, and I found my old CD Key in my backed up Registry hives. But the fact I have lost my whole disc and case some where means it was touch and go if I found the CD Key.

But now with BF2 getting further and further in the past, and now gamespy is dead, and EA don't give a **** about BF2 multiplayer. I was wondering how important the CD Keys are now, and if CD Key conflicts still even in effect on the servers?

If they are still in effect on the servers, I used to work in an internet cafe in the UK, and was thinking of phoning around to compile some list of spare old keys. But still unsure on the best way to dish them out, as obviously you will still get conflicts if I have 100 or 200 keys to go around thousands of gamers and also it'd become piracy, as only one person should hold one key at a time.

Any ideas every body?

If you want to do that inside the PR community, You'd have to talk to a senior project manager about that.

If you take it on yourself , you have some flexibility.


So to answer your questions, pirated CDKeys are still getting banned, pretty much all the easily available pirate keys have been banned.
PRLauncher still checks for a key, still checks for a valid key, and will stop online play if no key, invalid key, or a banned key is found in the registry.

IMHO, giving the keys to a youtuber/twitch streamer to give out as giveaways during PR livestreams might be the optimal bang for the buck with those keys.

But please make sure you have at least a receipt of some kind for the purchases, even if the receipt gets filed away and never looked at again.

Yeah not sure if anyone going to have receipts still from 9 years ago...

Most internet cafes will have the BF2 keys and discs down in a dusty corner some where of a cellar I expect, or just the cd keys on a spreadsheet, as most cafes use iso cloning type software anyway so you can just double click and go on any game with out having to go and get a disc from the reception.

Personally I wish EA would just give the thumbs up to it becoming freeware, that'd be awesome, but its never going to happen, they are total money grabbers. I mostly only buy indie developed games nowardays.

Added note: I have noticed you can purchase BF2 on steam, so I expect this will give you a key if anyone is looking, but be warned, I have not tried this!
