If you are new and thinking about playing this, DONT

So here is a quick synopsis of my first experience with BF2 - PR :

1) wait 3 hours for mod to download

2) Wait 30 minutes for mod to install

3) Wait 15 minutes for mod to start after clicking on the executable (just a black screen, not even a "now loading" screen)

4) Find a game and join it, wait 10 minutes before being informed connection has been lost

5) Try to join again, successfully connect, wait 20 minutes for map to load, end up informed connection has been lost

6) Rejoin same server with better loading times, wait 20 minutes until game finally loads

7)Realize frame rate and gameplay is insanely poor for a 10 year old engine. Play anyways.

8) Run for 20 minutes across insanely expansive terrain/maps before ever seeing anyone I am supposed to shoot

9) Get team killed

10) Realize I am unable to call for a medic without actually calling for a medic with my mic (I guess this makes it more "realistic")

11) Wait 15 minutes to bleed out so I can respawn

12) Repeat step 8, only this time actually die at the hands of an enemy I can't see. Check score board. Apparently 3 kills is legendary. Realize this game basically consists of camping.

13) Game crashes.

14) Reboot and decide maybe I could do something interesting like flying transport choppers

15) learn how to fly on my own server

16) Join the only populated server the game has, and jump in a chopper with my newly acquired skills

17) Banned from said server for taking chopper because I was not in the right "squad"

1 8) realize this is the shittiest game ever, which dawned on me somewhere around step 2 but was ignored because, well, persistence.

19) Consider I should probably warn others about this fate

20) Remember nobody else finds military sims interesting and call the last 8 hours of my life a write off.

In short, the community is extremely anal, and any shortcomings the game already has (such as not being able to shoot someone at point blank range without first "steadying" your crosshairs for 30 seconds) will quickly be outpaced by the amount of militant ******** you meet in an online game.

I say this honestly, as I watched numerous tutorial and training videos on youtube before I ever ventured into a public server (and there are literally a handful of them).

God forbid you do something interesting like learn how to fly a chopper on your own server and then take one in a public server because you'd rather do something other then venture around for 20 minutes over terrain with nothing all that interesting to look at or even shoot at, or you could end up banned from the only server with people actually on it like I did.

If you can find some sort of hardcore squad that is willing to put you through basic training, this game could be worth your time if that is what you are looking for. I heard it was "mil sim light" and took a chance. If this is mil sim light, I can't imagine what mil sim hardcore is like.

Not worth your time if you are looking to play casually.

Yep, it's not a casual genre game.

I think that about covers it.

Not really what I was trying to imply. I consider Tetris a casual genre game, or something like "bejeweled" (which I have never played, for the record).

This game takes "hard core" to a new level, fills it with a couple hundred ********, and expects it's community to thrive.

Did I mention there is absolutely no reason to take it so seriously when anyone who wants that kind of experience could do it in ARMA 2 or 3? or in a flight sim? Crappy graphics, crappy performance, crappy community.

It should really become apparent when you are prompted to download a torrent, that is an ISO, that becomes an executable, instead of just being able to download the installer in the first place.

1) make sure your computer is able to handle this mod. It isn't BF2.
2) read the manual
3) read the server rules of a server you are joining
4) as you said it's 10years old, don't expect 2014 graphics. This game is played for it's gameplay and it's abilities to make people play like a team.

But meh, I lost interest in your feedback if you complain about downloading speeds for a mod to start with. Get a grip of yourself please.

Also, PR is not even close to a similar game as Arma 2/3. If you class them as similar games then you have no idea what PR is actually about.

If you also think that this 'message to new players' is gonna do anything then you are wrong. A more knowledged played would look into what he downloads before he starts playing and getting into choppers straight away.

Also, NOWHERE is it said that this is a casual, easy to pick up on game.

1) You have bad internet.
2)Also you have.... not the best computer, which I assume from your words.
3) Read the MANUAL.
4)Choppers/Planes are very hard to fly here. Try to fly them in an empty COOP server.
5)You know, the path of newcomer here is way longer, then in CoD or vBF. Deal with it. All of us dealed, and its OK.

You can call for a medic without a mic btw.

Alive: Press Q -> Need Medic
Wounded: Open Squad Screen (Capslock), Rightclick "Give up / Call Medic".

If you have a better computer maybe you should try again, join a Squad, say you're new and read the rules :)

Mate, this isn't your type of game.

Plenty of other folks are happy with it. It's way less hardcore than ArmA, but you apparently prefer what we call casual gaming, which is okay.

The performance issues are due to your system, neither I nor the majority of players have these problems. We have regular polls, and the vast majority reports being able to run at high settings. We also have testers with a variety of machines.

The vast majority of users also had no problem getting into the game. They had different expectations, apparently. Starting with the fact that they knew that a mic was essential to gameplay and not optional, as you seem to believe.

If you wouldn't have been so insulting, I'd have wanted to help you, but you obviously have no interest in that. Most other people who have problems come here, make a thread asking for help, get a dozen people who offer to walk them through personally, do that, and are happy.
You chose to just insult us instead.

Anything else?

The PR community consists of ********? Have you ever played another online shooter? :'D

All these problems stem from your hardware, internet, lack of preparation or bad attitude. This game is about teamwork as much as anything else, arguably more so. If you had engaged constructively with the other players in game, and the community in the forums, then you would have had few or no problems.

Good luck sorting out the issues you have with hardware, there are loads of options out there to ease in new players, including personalised training by volunteers, currently one topic below this one in the forums section. If you give up based on not knowing how to get involved then you're really missing out.

Cheers, Murkey.

Saying that the game is bad 'cause the internet connection is bad is, to say the least, retarded.

Where did I say the game was bad because my internet connection is bad?

The game is bad for a number of reasons, probably the greatest of which is it's community. You are all dedicated though, so have fun with that. I'd take Arma over this **** any day. Much friendlier community, and the game runs better.

People are calling ME butthurt? why? because I insulted a game only a handful of you are left playing because you've been doing it for years?

It's one thing to suggest a game isn't casual friendly. I didn't expect a casual game. I expected a military sim. What I got was a steaming coiler of **** dominated by a bunch of flies who figured they were king of the pile.

You can't even fill most roles as a new player because people lock squads like CAS or transport, tanks, APC's, etc. Take one anyways and you end up banned on all 2 of this games North American servers.

Criticize the gameplay, experience, or players and you get even worse.

Have fun guys. Glad you like the game. I agree with one of the guys on page 1. Not for me. I'll go play something that has real world physics, thanks.
