Players without mics second class citizens?

Recently my mic broke and I noticed that several times I tried to join a squad and was summarily kicked after responding to a mic check by text that I could hear but not speak. I thought if I communicated by typing and followed the squadleader and played as a team I would be fine, but apparently not.
As a squad leader I would usually kick a person if they did not respond to my communications at all, or if they go off and do their own thing, but I never considered not having a mic an unpardonable offense.
What do you guys think?

I think you should get a new mic.

Indeed.

It's problematic to play PR without mic. It's not impossible, but it does slow down comms quite a lot.
I don't think it's entirely unjustified if an SL demands a mic.

I usually dont kick people without mic / people who dont speak as long as they react at all and do all the tasks I need them to do.

PRTA NA and PRTA EU both require mics to be on the server. Those without are kicked

Yes, yes you are a second class citizen without a mic.
Luckily they are very cheap.

After my last 'gaming headset' was broken out of the box, and each previous last a very short time I bought a few of these:
Zalman mic
With this I can use hifi headphones!
The clip is to large for my wire and the small clips are very fragile, but nothing a bit of black electricians tape won't sort.

Honestly, you do not need a sennheiser microphone to play PR

I bought my headset for, what, 19 euros? It has worked flawlessly for year and half.

Bad luck Fungwu,
the unfortunate reality is that typing is a poor substitute for speaking. It's slower and the SL especially, probably has enough going on without having to read everything in the chat.
You'll find some people more charitable than others. I sometimes keep mic-less players, but they're certainly the first to go if I need space in my squad.
I used to use a cheap little clip on mic (like when people get interviewed on TV) which cost less than ?5, so just a handful of dollars/Euros/shiny beads etc.
Good luck.

Cheers, Murkey.

It starts getting a real problem when the person goes down and nobody can read what he types in the chat. Never know if dead-dead, wounded, killed where and by what ..
very annoying for medic or SL

Pretty much useless to me without a microphone most of the time. I'll take a person with a lack of skill that can communicate via VOIP over a highly skilled player without a mic most the time. Just makes my life easier.

Yup. That is indeed a thing. Should be in the manual I guess. Might even be.

Many people think it's dead-dead chat only, but also for the wounded. Chat can't be read by alive players anymore.

I used to play without a mic, and usually was in 3 man squad. It doesn't work and causes holdups, no matter what you are doing in the squad. Just go to these sales should be coming up, get yourself a nice headset!

The answer to the question is yes. The use of voice communications is nearly essential in squad coordination and survival.
Take these examples:
You're in a firefight, and an enemy grenade lands a few meters away from you and a squadmate. Most people would yell out "Grenade!" thus warning their squadmate, while they flee from it's position. What are you to do without a mic? Try typing it quick enough? Not only can you not type it quick enough, you have taken away your ability to move, so then both of you die.
Your squad is assaulting an objective that is currently held by the enemy. Your squad is lined up along the edge of the forest, with you on one of the flanks. Everyone in your squad is firing, and the enemy is firing back. All of a sudden, and enemy flanks you from the side or rear, and kills you. So what you would do is type "Enemy behind you!" or "Enemy flanking from (direction)". By the time you type out that message, and your squad reads and interprets it, they could already be dead. Most likely they didn't even see the message because they were busy firing and taking fire. Having a mic in that situation would of been beneficial in multiple ways. First, it's quicker. Secondly, no one has to take their eyes off of the enemy to see(or in this case hear) what you said. Also, the local function would have worked great in pinpointing your location to the rest of the squad.
In real life, would you text the person next to you? No, you would speak to them. Why would it work any differently in game? No one wants to play with somebody who has a handicap. It's annoying and obviously not the way PR was intended to be played, hence the reason mumble is integrated. Get a new mic and be done with it.

Yeah, I agree with majority of people here, get a mic - else no teamwork for you.
