Situational awareness, you don't have to look where your buddy is if you can hear exactly where he is Kills two birds with one stone. Furthermore, it doesn't drown out environmental sounds as much as squad chat does, so you might be able to hear a grenade pin be pulled or footsteps behind you

Psyrus is right. I wish more of the people I played with would do the same.
