Stuttering movement

Guys, I am desperate. I can't stop this stuttering movement I encounter every 2-3 seconds! Turning left or right is never accurate! I've tried almost everything; running the game as an admin...moving the BF2 root drive and PR2 to a different SSD. Even bought a 100 foot ethernet cable to connect to my router directly! As you can see below, my computer is very beefy and should be able to handle this game at max specs no problem; 780ti Kingpin editions in SLI, i7-3770k currently overclocked to 4.5GHz, 32gb Corsair Dominator Platinums overclocked to 1866Mhz. All being displayed on ASUS' VG248QE monitor at 1920x1080@144hz. Could it be mouse lag or something? I'm currently using Logitech's G502 Proteus and have made sure the drivers are up to date. I always play on either the =Hog= or PRTA North America servers and the lag is on both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried it with SLI disabled? I recall crossfire causing some big issues for someone about 3 years ago

Yes sir, disabled SLI and the issue is still there.

Curious, if you run a local game, does the same issue present itself?

Are you able to run BF2 single-player without the same lag?

Does a co-op server count? Whenever I search for local servers, none pop up. The stuttering was still there on the co-op server; which had 4 active players. BF2 i'm unable to even login now, it displays a 'server has refused connection' message.

UPDATE: Logged into my Battlefield 4 profile and the 2-3 second stutter is there as well. Any and every server I go to. I've had my McAfee Antivirus program run full scans and nothing is turning up! This is really getting frustrating. My Intel 730 SSD has about 67GB of free space remaining so it's certainly not a capacity issue.

A co-op server does not count, I want you to make a local game on your machine - that way your network adapter is eliminated from the equation.

The fact that it's happening in games other than PR suggests there's a deeper problem with your computer

Try disabling McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention for Desktop
Try enabling Gaming mode for PRBF2.exe .

Try completely disabling McAfee. (and turn it back on after testing)

Yep, it's gotta be the network adapter. Local game on PR runs buttery smooth at max settings and single player campaign BF4 plays flawless as well. Perhaps I need to update the firmware on my router? I'm using NETGEAR's R7000. Remember, direct connection via cable was still bringing the 2-3 second stutter.

1. Turn off IPV6 on your ethernet network conection on your PC.

2. Turn OFF the NETGEAR R7000 features called
  • Parental Controls and
  • Prioritized bandwidth for streaming videos or music (WMM feature)

This is really getting depressing, i've done all you've suggested LITOralis.nMd to no avail. Even upgraded the firmware on router. ::SIGH::

Next step, see if any of your other PCs have a PCI network adapter in them, or borrow one from a friend. Use an alternate network adapter to confirm that it's a controller problem and not a windows-networking issue. Don't buy an extra network adapter unless you absolutely can't find a free one.

Try unplugging the g430 and disabling any Logitech audio software, then starting PR,

Motherboard: Intel Corporation DZ77GA-70K

You have two NICS right?

Try shutting one off in BIOS, boot, connect CAT cable to other, test, then reboot BIOS and switch which is enabled and which is disabled.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get my hands on another PCI network adapter Psyrus, but I don't think it would make a difference anyways, remember even direct connection to my router via cat cable is still bringing the lag.

Cable vs Wifi doesn't matter if it's hitting the same NIC.

Hey Psyrus isn't using a PCI network adapter considered moving backwards in terms of technology as opposed to using a USB connected network adapter? I do have USB 3.0 options but they still produce the same results. I'm currently using NETGEAR's A6200 (USB) adpater which gives me the option of connecting from 2.4Ghz to 5.0Ghz in speeds. Both speeds still give me the stutters unfortunately. In my household, my PC is the only one connected to 5.0Ghz, my father has his HP laptop, printer and some other android device (probably cell phone) connected to the 2.4Ghz speed. Hope this info yields new suggestions.

Can you list your entire home network:
motherboard: Intel (got that already)
firewall
antivirus
router make and model
modem
ISP

Try turning off power saving mode in your ethernet connection.
Try turning off IPv6 on your ethernet connection,
Try switching your DNS server to Google DNS

------------------------------------------

1. try disabling IPv6 on your internet connection.
It's possible IPv6 is causing you problems there. Go to the network adapter you use to connect to the Internet, select "Properties", on the "Networking" tab untick "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)", OK it, then restart the machine. Run PR, and if it still fails, make another ProcMon log if you can and paste it here.

2. We can run through a bunch of troubleshooting, or we can just do it properly to start:
Boris wrote:K, so if the ticker's working then that should prove PRLauncher.exe has UDP/TCP outbound access fine enough.

If you could do the following it should prove helpful: Grab this Process Monitor application and extract/run it (it's free and clean - no need to install - no bs included).

On startup, set the "Filter" popup window to the following:

Process Name > is > PRLauncher.exe > then > Include > Add > OK

There are five icons top right on the main window when it opens that allow for toggling on/off what gets displayed; uncheck all except "Show Network Activity", then run PRLauncher and attempt to launch/update the game. ProcMon will produce an output that should indicate exactly what it's doing. The process goes something like the following:

Code: Select all

Start PRLauncher;
-----------------
1. UDP domain lookup (ingame.realitymod.com)
2. TCP connect to 74.55.51.162:80 (ingame.realitymod.com) = ticker data
	On Error = "Error loading news..."

Launch game;
------------
3. UDP domain lookup (gpcm.gamespy.com)
4. TCP connect to 69.10.30.242:29900 (gpcm.gamespy.com) = user login
	On Error = "1004: Error connecting to server. (10061)"

5. UDP domain lookup (prbf2.cdn.ancientdev.com)
6. TCP connect to 63.236.252.179:80 (random akamai/other host) = verification list
	On Error = "1301: Unable to contact verification server. Please check your internet connection and try again."
If you could post the output from that then that'd be great. Just save the result out in plaintext CSV form and paste it here (you can open it in Notepad to copy it), or you could just screenshot it.

A little long-winded all this, but trying to drill down to the fault here. ;)

Ok so just to be clear...
  • Motherboard NIC connected by ethernet directly to modem/router -> Stutters
  • USB dongle connected to Wifi -> Stutters
If that's the case, it points to either one of the following
  1. Your router/modem config
  2. Your windows networking config
  3. Something completely unrelated to your networking setup, like an antivirus, malware etc

That's correct Psyrus, and that's via both NIC's. I had my PC scanned via McAfee Antivirus Plus, and AVG. They both picked up on a few malware issues and disposed of them, but the issue persists.

To LITOralis
Firewall= McAfee Antivirus Plus
Antivirus= McAfee
Router= Netgear R7000
Modem= Motorolla SBG6580
ISP= Time Warner Cable

Disabling IPv6 didn't do anything unfortunately..
