PR doesn't exit...runs in background. Weird.

I exit out of PR via the "exit" button. Put computer into "Sleep" mode. Come back the next day...fire up PR and get message saying something to the effect of, "PR (or maybe BF2?) is already running and you can't run two instances of the game at the same time"

I'm pretty sure I can shut down my computer and start again and the "no exit" problem corrects itself...still, what might cause that?

Anyone seen this before?

Oh, almost forgot, the first time it did this I went to Task Manager and killed it. Dunno, if I broke the game or not with that stunt

My wild arsed guess, Likely an antivirus program holding the PRbf2.exe or PRLauncher.exe executable in a "sandbox" type situation?

Nope. But to be fair to PR I had to put my gaming tower in the shop a few months ago to address a Windows user log in problem. I.E. my copy of Windows didn't know who I was type thing and wouldn't allow me past the splash screen.

The tech at the shop copied all my files onto an external drive and then rearranged everything (including PR/BF2, etc.) in a manner that he thought made sense on my C:, SSD, and whatever else I have in there.

Since then all kinds of buggy shit are going on. EX: I have to start and restart Windows to get my Ethernet card to connect to my modem...even though it's hardwired via cable. My Creative Extreme XF-i sound card is in constant battle with RealTek.

I'm plowing thru the forums here and making a good faith effort to apply some of the remedies in a DIY fashion but my understanding of all-things-PC has it's practical limits.

So...i keep plowing. It's all i know to do.

Did you get the "user profile service failed" problem?

Looks like this:

I consider myself pretty good at PC tech support. When I ended up getting that error more than 10 times in 6 month period, I went out and bought a new SSD and a new copy of windows , a copy of PCMover and basically started over.

I had 14 user accounts, default, my original profile, and administrator1 through administrator11.

The quick answer here:
make a copy of your PR profile directory at My Documents\ProjectReality
write down your PR username and passsword.
uninstall PR and BF2.
create a new windows profile account with administrator privileges.
log into the new account.
reinstall BF2 and PR as per our installation guide.
Start BF2 once, then start PR
try to login and play online.

That's a PITA, but if it is the "user profile service failed" problem, it's going to unregister ALOT of .DLL driver files for various bits of hardware , as you've experienced.

Also, if you don't want to reinstall windows, you can download drivers, uninstall drivers, reboot and reinstall drivers for those problems, ethernet and audio hardware, etc.

treexy's driverfusion is my choice for this task. Be careful driverfusion can nuke your PC.
