How to Ambush

Hello all,
This is a more advanced tactic on how to be a competent engineer. By default, engineers need to stay away from the front lines and be a source of confusion and anxiety to the enemy.
Here are some tips.
1. Find a well traveled route of your enemy and mine it. Hide your mines inside rocks and debris on the road. A lot of maps have roads that include these features and if you get good at placing mines, they will be invisible to your enemy.
2. Make an ambush. Place a mine in the middle of the road for everyone to see. Then place mines to the left and right of the center mine to make it look like a roadblock. Then place mines in the shrubs and grass to the left and right so they will go around your block and still get a mine to the face.
3. Get a friend to come with you and they must have HAT or LAT. Set up the above explained roadblock and tanks and apc will stop in front of the mines to figure a way around.... then you HAT them while they are still.
I have experimented with these techniques for about 4 months and they work well. Follow the guidelines and you too will confuse and frustrate the enemy, while allowing your team to advance and take flags.
Have fun and play on

Good tips, Stonefly
Hope you don't mind me making an addition:
A lot of people don't know this, but the watercontainer IED makes a
very powerful explosion. One by itself will kill a Logi, Transport-truck, Humvee. Two in a row will kill an APC like the BMP-2. Dunno how many it takes to kill a tank, but probably also two.
They're the best anti-vehicle IED because of how easy it is to hide them in debris.

Want proper ambush? Don't get spotted and start fire until enemy is in point blank range, that you simply can't miss.
Also if engagement continues more than 10 seconds, your ambush was not efficient enough. Because by then everyone should be dead.

U mean working behind the enemy line???
That's spec ops' job. It's not entirely ambush.
Just keep it in might, dont let too much people get involved and it would be wise to leave the Hat to those infantry squad fighting on the front line.
Or people will call this ''Helping the team''.
What Cossack said is textbook ambush.
PS: It's always good to see 1 or 2 guys blow some logi or APCs behind the enemy line. And they r not even close to enemy base.
PPS: People love insurgent's ARTY IED. AMAZING TOY.

More solid advice Stonefly, I'd like to add 2 things:
1) According to the latest notes I have which should be accurate - A single player may place up to 30 mines, 10 trip flares, 4 grenade traps and 30 water container VOIEDs (after which the 1st one placed will disappear). After you've been killed, the ordinance will stay for 10 minutes, with mines this is 20 minutes.
2) Besides debris, the other common way to hide mines is using the terrain, specifically the gradient of hills, so the driver won't see them until it's too late.
Cheers, Murkey.
p.s. Be sure to mark your mines and remember if you joined the server after the mine was placed it might not be visible for you, but will still kill you.

You should create your own "How to Guide To PR". Great tips so far honestly. Now you need is a "How to defend an objective". Something a lot of players don't know how to do.

My idea for good ambush, too bad getting the kits might be an issue. Engineer, HAT, LAT and a heavy MG.
Ambushing a convoy (2-4 vehicles) on a road as unconventional faction. I'm gonna do some "graphics" here:
Crew needed: 4-6
The road: ----------------------------------->
# = HAT
? = LAT
% = Engineer
& = MG
{} = landmine / victim operated mine
[x] = remote controlled mine / explosives
---&?-----#-{}{}-[x]---%------>
LAT and MG are in the beginning of the road (or before the others anyways), letting the head of the convoy go past them.
The first vehicle of the convoy meets HAT and minefield, the vehicle gets destroyed. If the HAT misses, the vehicle is going to hit the landmine field anyways. The engineer with remote explosives is just a back-up plan. When the leading vehicle has been destroyed, the LAT moves in with machine gunner covering him. The LAT destroys the remaining vehicles and MG destroys the fleeing or defending infantry. HAT could use an extra LAT for back up, MG could use an extra rifleman for cover.
That plan requires practicing and good communication, but might be hard to carry out in PR because of kits.
Sometimes good ol' guerrilla tactics work the best: get RPG (HAT/LAT), sit in a bush and wait for delicious target. Fire, destroy and get the hell out of there ASAP.

I like ambush with MON-50 more, because they don't have to be placed in middle of road and can kill infantry.
If you place them on roads, you are most likely to find logi trucks anyway.

This is sooooo true. Defending a flag is great fun. You simply hunker down and let them attack you. So many SL's and players seem to want to attack, but defending gets you into some fantastic firefights.

The victim operated water based one are my favorite!!!! So easy to hide and yes two will kill a Bradley. Nothing like getting a trans truck and a full squad with one.
Plus.....Have you ever noticed Combat Engineers get a mine and a shovel but can not bury the mine and a insurgent sapper can bury his arty ied?
PR2 = I want to be able bury a mine.

IKR!? I think defense is the best part of the game. You will always have attacks on you. Plus, you can do w/e and just chill.
