Map Idea – Training Map

Ok, so as you may have seen in the help section my PR/BF2 is not working. But that doesn’t stop me from having this idea. What if there was a map designed to lessen the large learning curve for a Bf2 player to PR? There are such things in real life called “MOUNT” training courses (although these training courses are not even close to what I am about to layout). In this map people would expect that most don’t know how to play and are learning, I have found the PR community is vary large and very very nice to other players. People could even go into the map to help others. I would suggest having this map to make no sense geographically so you may have a city and suddenly BOOM it’s you in a dessert as to simulate the many maps of PR. I think it could be very helpful if there were also very obvious places for training – IE; a large stretch of flat land with some obstacles and a big hill. This would allow a sniper on the hill and people on the ground. The sniper would try to kill the people and the people would try to evade and kill the sniper, thus both learn. Also there would be very low vehicle respawn times, for learning pilots and drivers and lots of vehicles in the map. Hopefully the map could integrate parts for every element of the game and that elements counter-attack. This hopefully will increase the amount of people playing PR without a huge handicap and decrease the “noob” from squads. And then the “noob” and the other players are happy.

I'd love really love that and I think it's possible.

this is something more for clans and less for public servers

You should make a Shooting Range, and O-Course, with a big billboard in front of each object with instructions on what to do.
Have things like kit requesting. Requesting vehicle and pilot kits, etc.
Zooming in tanks, and all the little features that make PR different from vanilla.

I never thought of that! This map could be used for clans to practice large attacks and small strikes.
I also like the idea of a shooting range, with the more realistic guns this could come in handy. Is there any possibility of creating moving targets? Or even AI that just spawns and runs around from point A to point B then back (with a different route so you have no clogging) taking cover occasionally. Hopefully we will see this map in the new .5 update!

Why not have a vocie telling you what the new features are. Like first time you played BF2.

Wow that sounds cool, no pun intended! But could you make a single player map called like training where you could learn how the basics (through voiceover) and a multiplayer map where you just play to learn? If this if possible this could make a very cool training platform, I can see it now "Welcome to Offensive Driving" and "Welcome to Flight School"! Maybe we can even get a training server! Maybe I am getting ahead of myself, not many people have a server just lying around, but still I can hope!

i dont like the idea of AI. It should be large and not to detailed to avoid lag. Make it four stations. an airfield on one side with bombing area, shooting and grenider side, grenidiers would shoot forklifts because they are the weakest, than a simulated city for MOUT training (Military Operations Urban Terrain) with narrow allys, and a maze of wall or buildings, enterable buildings, i like the idea of sniper ally. we could have a long strip of land with a few obsticles the the trainees could hide behind, while our veteran players there try to snipe them. I say veteran because the noobs need to be down there and we may be able to snipe better and offer a larger challange. i reccomend we have two sniper rifles. the long range and the SVD. replace (for this map only) the engineer kit with the long range sniper, and requesting the other.

Yes, now that I think about it I agree, AI is not a good idea. I think that we definitely need to incorporate as many parts of the game as possible and its counter attack. Maybe we should increase the amount of limited kits. Is this possible? And I think we need to have at least one "base" that’s prone to attack by helicopter insertion for more advanced pilots and players. Hopefully this map won’t just be for beginners; more experienced players could learn a little and practice attacks. Also maybe one of the devs can help me out on this one. Is it possible to make an only single player map, but with a voiceover? Maybe have an "instructor" follow you around. You could use triggered events to get him to tell you what to do and then follow you? But I think that there should definitely NOT be any AI on multiplayer.

well they'd probably have to make the voice over themselves and maybe it would be easier to have text instead. or the billboard idea sounded good but would take time.

in the sniper alley thing the "noobs" should use the sniper rifles, its more challenging that way for everyone

Should have it on singleplayer, sniper training, kit requests, squads, etc.

Have different areas like a F.I.S.H area(fighting in someones house) where its all nicely urban and that. How about a HALO practice where you have a static object in the air with a target on the ground where to land. Make sure theres a very dark building that allows you to use NVGs too.

this sounds like an excellent idea. who is volunteering?(dunno how that is spelt lol)

Well I don't think that the map has to be very realistic or detailed we could use some of the objects/buildings already in PR. I have made one map but am definitely not a mapper. Do we have any mappers/coders who are willing to help? Like I said I think that we need any high detail so (hopefully) I don’t think that it will take a long time to finish. So, does anyone want to volunteer?

A aingle-player tutorial with scripted instructions a lá Americas Army would be cool, and very useful for something as hardcore as PR. I wonder if something like that could be scripted into BF2?
Probably won't ever happen, but it's an interesting thought.

well, now what about the devs/mappers, is there anyone out there to realize that ?would really be cool

So, I think that sounds good. F.I.S.H, M.O.U.N.T, HALO, Infantry, and driving courses. Do any Devs have input? Any mappers. I think this qualifies as a "medium to hard" map to make, but then again I don’t know too much about mapping. I think the Americas Army-esque training would be really really cool, and give the "noob" the kind of "HOLY #$&% THIS IS FREE?!?!" face, but that might be harder to do. So I am herby calling all mappers, Devs or not, to help. Please I really think this is a good idea and would help a lot of people. We can make this thread the “Official Training Map Discussion Thread” if you have any ideas feel free to post them, and again, if you have any mapping skills that you feel qualifies to do this then please speak up.
Thanks
