Project Reality Server Submission for LAN use

God day to every one, today is my 18th birthday and I have promised to my gamers friends that next Sunday we will have a clan dedicated LAN server of Project Reality :D

We usually play together on other online servers, like Veterans Gaming Coop, but we would like to also play LAN matches (we are nine people from a single city: Venice :D :D :D ).

Obviusly with the client version of Project Reality we can not play properly (who is the server can not be revived and has some performance issues or there are other issues with the conquest mode), and we are looking for a dedicated server version like the BF2 dedicated server launcher in the BF2 folder (which we use for BF2 LAN matches).

I'm now 18teen and I can now submit for a server :D
but I do not own a computer server and I'm unable to host online... :( I do not wont have it too, so I can't insert my IP adress or my port because I only have an old notebook connected to a LAN network that is not connected to internet (is a desktop ethernet switch by ZyXEL called ES-105A).

So I'm asking if it is possible to submit for a LAN server version of Project Reality

Thank you :D

What do you want, a dedicated server or the files for a PR server?

To clarify, you need a license for the server files, and for an actual physical server you need some money and you need to rent it.

You can run a local server from a computer in your LAN, which all users should be able to connect to.

Yes, sorry ;-)

I would like to have Project Reality Server Files to run only a LAN server because I don't have a physical server and I don't want to have it, I just would it (I mean server files) for LAN use only with my friends using the dedicated server files in an old notebook as host connected to the LAN network with our others PCs (some times we play during holidays in an house that doesn't have internet connection).

That's because with the client version of Project Reality I can't run a local server without some issues (like the fact that who host can not be revived) and also because with the simple Battlefield 2 Server Launcher is not possible to run Project Reality maps.

Thank you so much for your super quick repile :)

That revive thing is not true at all I believe. Also local lan is fine and really does not require server files. Local games do the exact same thing.

It's the same with BF2, BF2142 and Project Reality: who is the server (if it is a CLIENT local server) can be revived only by BOTs; there are some cases when he can be revived by other players but these are extremely rare, for us one or two times in four years of BF2 LAN playing... :-(
And we have tested that with a lot of other mods too and also with several PCs (we are nine players with eleven PCs)

But a Sunday afternoon I had discovered the dedicated server launcer in the BF2 directory. With it the revive function works fine on all maps and mods.

An other thing is that when I host a Conquest mode match with a Client version (that's only for Project Reality), other clients in the same LAN network can not see it. I'm sure that the network works fine because we have played Coop missions and other games.

And obviusly the CPU job that has to be done by the server is made by a PC that does not play, so its owner can play with better performance because his CPU is less used (when we are in nine I have some lag and performance issue, like in other games as Space Engineers, Men Of War, Emergency 4, IL-2 Sturmovik HSFX...).

Again Thankyou for your quick replies :D :D :D

Just download the BF2 dedicated server files and install PR on the host (I guess this requires an installation of BF2 client though). Then let the dedicated server run PR and you should be fine.

Thanks again, just tried: it works for some Coop and conquest maps but... for most of maps doesn't work and crashes...
Especially for insurgency and other game modes which can not be ever loaded...
It crash or is unable to load completely the map giving an error message...

And I think that if it worked the Battlefield 2 Server Launcher for Project Reality then it would not have created the Project Reality Server Launcher...

So I have to confirm my request:
It is a way to get Project Reality Server Files for LAN use only? :o ops:

Come on, guys
It's so simpy :D

Or shall I create a virtual server in order to get information about an IP adress to insert in the official request?

Hm, if you install all the client-files on the server (so treat the server as if it is a client), then when done, simply use the BF2 dedicated server executable and you should be able to run anything as far as I know.

Hi friends :)
Thanks for your patience and disposability :D

First of all I would like to report here that the BF2 Dedicated Server doesn't work properly with Project Reality, also if I follow every of your instructions: most of maps crash and it's impossible to host an Insurgency mode.

An other thing to say is that the client version is able to host coop match ONLY, in which the server can not be revived and, obviusly, has performance issue because it must run the client and it must do as a server in the same time. Other game modes are not seen by other client LAN connected.

And now I have an other problem: due to 1.3 update, there is no more the possibility to use Battlefield 2 Dedicated Server Launcher, with which I was able to host just a few maps in coop mode...

So I must repeat my request: is there a way to get the Project Reality Server Licence for Project Reality Server files also if you do not have a server but if you want to use them only in LAN? :o ops:

No, the server license is only for dedicated servers.

For LAN you can just use local.

Ehm... :o ops:
But hosting a match with the local server function of a client does not work, just for Coop mode and in these last ones the client which hosts can not be revived... :35_rip:

I have used a lot of times the dedicated server of Battlefield 2 to host succesfully PvP and Coop Games with my friends in LAN.
I understand that it is not its proper function, but works :D
And works perfectly :)

As soon as possible I'll post for you a video in the YouTube channel of my clan in which I'll show with as precision as possible what happens ;)
