Hello,
I had a idea a long time ago to develop this faction but the idea never got further.
With the withdrawal of the Combat Forces in Afghanistan I started looking back at this idea, and started working on it.
Then I loaded them In-Game to see if it was working, and it didn't, so I kept searching and found some pretty amazing tools to help me debug it.
Then I started re-texturing/coding vehicles and the list goes on.

At the moment the faction work as a Mini-Mod like PR:WW2 Alpha Test.

I needed a second map before making this thread, last week I spoke with Ason and he was really interested for ANA on Bamyan. I worked on some python that does't work that week and finally making this thread today.

I can't take this project all by myself because of my working schedule and I'm really bad at modeling, complex texturing, etc (Mainly Kits Geometries and Player Models).

Design Plan

Recrutement

Currently looking for people working on Player model (Modeling/Textures) and Kit Geometries (Modeling/Textures),
Send me a PM you if you are interested.

I like this!

I actually expected this earlier than all the other community factions.

The most challenging task here will be to create new voices. To the best of my knowledge, the most widely spoken languages in Afghanistan are Pashto and Farsi. According to Wikipedia, Pashto is the most widely spoken of the two. In my opinion this alone is an important project, because the taliban faction should be speaking these languages. Arabic can serve as a placeholder, but in my opinion there needs to be a serious effort to add more realistic voices in the future.

In the design plan you have many of the primary weapons set to Ak74s. For the most part, the ANA looks as if they're using M16A2s and some M16A4s. M4s are only used by special forces, but it should be fine for the spotter to have one with an optional rco.
I would recommend checking out your references and further revising your planning.

I'd be happy make soldier textures and new kit geometries once the ANA have at least one map 100% done.

Thank for your support.

I actually found the Technical, I modified the Texture to remove the Shark, added the ANA logo on the hood and added 1p.

I never thought about the voice, we will be using Arab as a placeholder, until we can find some one who can do Pashto/Farsi.

When I did the first kit layout they had too many scopes and I think they had only 4 or 5 AK-47s in total.
I revised it to make them use less scopes and use AK-74s, but I believe too that they have too much AK-74s.
So I might just remove Alt Kits for some of them. I'll be revising the kits layout later.

Bamyan is really close to be finished, and I need to find some time to work on Musa Qala.

Might be an idea to get the woodland camo from the MEC skins on Syrian maps/Syrian armed forces?

yeah that would be nice.

Also perhaps it's possible to make a ziptie version with no scopes? If only spotter, sniper and officer will have scopes I guess that's fine aswell, but it would be really great to have one version with no scopes at all (only on sniper/marksman).

It would be nice if there could be a Pashto voice, but the Taliban faction is using Arab now as a placeholder as well right? If somebody can do the voices it is great but I don't think it should let down a possible future release.

We'd love to have proper voices for Taliban and the likes, but it's very hard to find people that speak Farsi (for example) and can record it properly. So for now I'd say just use the MEC voices.

@max nice; oh, okay, cool to see it put to use at last ;)

The tricky thing is that to best represent a faction, you're likely choosing a single unit/group within that force. Different parts of their military will have different uniforms and gear.
While it may happen from time to time, you probably won't find many fireteams loading out with AKs and M16s. Its usually going to be one or the other.
Certain kits can deviate from this (such as the spotter or crewman kits) because they're more rare and apply to different situations, but everything else should be pretty uniform in order to to deter potential inaccuracies. Variation is great, but not at the expense of accuracy.

Of course its your project and I'm by no means an expert on the Afghan military. This was just something I thought you should consider in the planning phase.

I updated the Kit layout again in the Design Plan

Also Rusty_42 has been working on some Textures and there's the result:

Looks pretty good. That ANA logo however looks kinda pixel-ish / low quality, compared to the rest of the texture. Can that be made better or..?

Camo's edges looks too sharp. Doesn't really look like it was painted on:

I removed the logo on the back door, the logo just looks really bad on that back door for some reason, and I'm using the Transparent logo now, the circle look too tin at the moment and I'm still loosing quality somewhere with the logo. I still need to smooth the camo a little bit.

Here's some progress screenshots,

Today I focused on Python and coding the remaining vehicles.

For their UAV I placed the Militia's Black and White UAV, I'm trying to get documentation about it, but I did't find any information yet.

I could add C7A2 to their equipment. But they were only in service for 3 years. They ship them back to Canada and they choosed M16A4 as a replacement in 2011.

Also the Persian Wiki is very detailed about their equipment. I'll do another kit revision later, mostly to change AK74 back to AK47.

Looking at the design plan, I wish we could see some more Aks in there - I understand weapons likely are standarised among individual units, but I always love to be able to choose between western and eastern weapons (Hamas).
