Been gone a couple of years

Hey guys, been playing other games for a couple of years because my BF2 installation broke and I was unable to repair it.
Is the BF2 PR2 still the main PR2?
Good to see you guys again (if any of you are the same).

Also, actually, I can't seem to log in to vanilla, is that going to stop me from playing PR? The online account thing just bounces me at login so I can't even play the game

...

Just wanted to say hi, but, I also wanted to ask if there are still some good servers with meaningful populations/playerbase for PR?

Yes, normally have about 4 full 100 man servers on primetime. You might see less life during working hours / days, but still servers with lots of people.
BF PR is still the " main PR ". The PR2 standalone project stopped but a new game Squad based on PR is being made:

Well thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I look forward to playing alongside you.
For anyone who has similar issues to me with installation, just wanted to note somewhere out here in the ether...
I found my old BF2 CDs (2 sets of them, luckily)... but installing in windows 7 was resulting in an "installation failed start over" error message... on the 3rd disc, every time, no matter which of my 3rd discs I was using.
So, I tried making isos... that didn't help... here's what I did.
Installed, got through first and second discs... DID NOT PUT IN 3rd disk - went to c:\program files x86 blah blah Battlefield 2 install folder, and COPIED what was there (when the fail happens it goes ahead and deletes everything out of there).
Ctrl-alt-delete and terminate install, (it still deleted itself right before my eyes).
Copied and pasted salvaged BF2 folder back to where it belonged...
Downloaded the 1.41 and 1.5 patch... they could not find my installation. Regedit, add the Installdir string value to the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE blah blah blah location where Battlefield 2 is (had to look this one up).
This allowed the 1.41 and 1.5 patches to install.
Game launches. Hopefully nothing is broken in there.
Anyway, just wanted to share in case someone else is in a hopeless "install - haha your installation is deleted" loop in Windows 7 like I spent 3 hours in last night... don't give up~
Since EA isn't even running the servers anymore, could Project Reality just go ahead and include the full BF2 game with the PR download, I wonder? Has anyone approached EA with such an insane idea?

I believe EA still has ownership rights over BF2, so I dunno if that'd be the greatest idea. Knowing EA, they'd probably tell devs to put a price tag on PR if they decided to include vanilla BF2 with the mod.

You're probably right, but EA needs to be a cooler dude about this, since they sort of took a massive steaming dump on our chests as fans of the original game.
In all honesty I only reinstalled for PR, but I would have certainly enjoyed a few rounds of vanilla here and there, too.
Another idea would be if they went ahead and made BF2 completely open source. The net code under the hood can't be too bad, and I bet an amazing community would spring up on Origin if they did it. I think the Counterstrike mod guys and all source mod guys were the fuel that really got Steam going... they have a real opportunity here if they could quit with the insane-o money-grubbing, imo.

Isn't there the BF 2 revive for those who want to play MP?
