question regarding large maps (4km) and the 2142 engine

hello,
somewhere in this forum, i saw a topic where a dev shown a problem with large terrains and the bf2 engine. the problem was about rendering the LOD/Terrain distance or something like that, that the larger the terrain is, the worse is getting the problem. 4km terrain was used as a example but i can not find the topic anymore.
anyway, lets get to the question:
how does the 2142 engine render large maps ? does it have the same problem or are 4km maps working like a charm ? here i saw this video which runs on bf2142: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvnhPeIUsRU terrain looks nice there i cant see the problem
