Hey, I saw on server watch that there were loads of people having a big game on Al Basrah. TNT server I think? Seeing as this never gets played, I just wondered what it was like???

I played Al Basrah once with ~40 people, no lags at all.

I think its individuals computers that lag on Basrah, I don't lag at all on it, much like I don't lag on Iron Gator, but I do on Warlord...
Just certain setups I guess.
Internet? or Crappy System?

yeah when you lag on a map like that is one of 2 things. your internet connection, or its your computer. if you dont have up to date computer, then your going to lag hardcore. espically with a low amount of ram and a old video card it makes a big difference. i havent lagged at all on my rig that i built a while back ago.i should be good for a another year before i have to upgrade lol. all the maps play great on reg and on any mod maps. this is what i have under the hood.
Amd 4800+X2 Dual Core
Asus A8V Deluxe
2 WD Raptor X 150GB Hard Drive
4 gigs of OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum
Nvidia e-DeForce 7800 GS CO Superclocked AGP 8x
Windows X64
yeah so that help out with no lag for me lol

Ye, lag is ok, its fixed for v5 anyway.
I was mainly wondering what the gameplay was like? Was it all airport raping or did usmc get into the city at all?

Well, games atm dont utilize more than 2 gigs of RAM, so if your a gamer, dont waste money like that. Also, im not saying you wasted that RAM, because you have X64 (which supports 4 gigs.).
Nice stuff you have though. What are you using that computer for?
yeah i know....

yeah i know about the games only using about 2- 2.5 gigs of ram. i got it brand new in the box off ebay for the price of 2 gigs basicly .so i had to pick it up lol. but i do putz around with some video editing here and there and i have dual monitor set up as well so thats why the 4 gig bust mostly this is my toy, till i figure out what i am putting in my next rig lol. and there isint to much base raping. well at least on the sever that i run even though there are no rules everyone pretty much stays and defends that first flag but that is one of my most fav maps aka the suicide car with hi fi stereo lol

Well, 4Gigs of RAM must be nice during video editing huh? LOL, you get a longer live-preview than if you 'only' had 2 gigs. I only have 2 gigs on my rig right now, but what a difference it was coming from just 1 gig of ram. BF2 definately runs smooth as hell at 1280x960 for me, full details on.

back on topic please guys. discuss hardware in OT.
Played on TNT 24/7 Basrah server with about 15v15 today. Had a really good game. Was n some good squads with 22ndMEU guys ajnd some other clans.
We managed to capture and hold facility, and ALMOST bled out the insurgents.
Was a really good game.

I was there when it was 40 ish, it was an airport rape fest.
I think along with the dome of death, some flag control should be reworked for .5 of basrah... maybe grey village and north vcp?

Flag control+ Gameplay is all totally different. Dont worry about rape nemore. Thanks anyway though.
I had to get the team to GET OUT OF THE AIRPORT. Basically half the insurgents go to airport, then as USMC you get out of the base over the walls or w/e and go to take village easy because theres hardly anyone there.
Cap that, defend a few attacks, (we held village as 1 squad for like 20 minutes was really intense

me, 22nd meu guys, foxtrot6echo, and some others) Insurgents like animalmother are screaming at the rest if his team to get out of the airpot, and we blitzkreig it into the city capturing the checkpoints+facility in about 5 minutes. Held them on a bleed and we lost the final score as like 70-0, as suppose to like 700-0 which it normally is.
People just need to realsise to GET OUT of the airport, the air power is on quite long respawn times, so noobs get a cobra on their own, hover above village randomly strafing, then get RPGed instantly, then go back to wait in the middle of the airport for 15 miuntes and 'go this map suxx!' because they keep getting killed by the dumb insurgents.
We had some squad work as usmc and killed ALOT of insurgents without looseing many guys atall. Once the flag was secured we did short range area patrols to root out the spawn cars, and then you can get a really good hold of it. The rest is just blowing up the civilian cars + carbombs as they come racing down the highway oblivious.
Gameplay seems quite cool when I played on that TNT server, so Id encourage others to use the same tactics and GET OUT OF THE AIRPORT and cap the flags behind the insurgents backs. And remember those T62s can be knocked out with SLAMs or 1 Heavy AT hit to the sides/rear does about 85% damage to the front hit.

We put that server up 2 days ago and it has been pretty popular.
We're trying to enforce a "no camping US base" rule until we can get the script together for the Dome of death thing...or rather if we can get it together.
That map is awesome, but it does lag many peoples machines because I think the entire map is drawn whether you're there to view the stuff or not. That's such a big map combined with it being entirely drawn the whole time. I hear that .5 deals with this though.
We're adding 2 more servers today, 24/7 Ejod/Jabal, and an Urban Warfare server with TRUE urban maps.
Thanks for playing!

Yes, that was a very fun game. Although it took a while for the the other guys to get out of spawn and haul ***, but when they did we got a 3 hummer convoy, took village, and went straight to Facility, Mosque got capped and recapped quite a few times, but MEC managed to keep it.

I was on with =IA=General and Mongol. General was on insurgents to start and gave us info on enemy positions via TS. With this help we pressed all the way to Mosque and then he was able to switch teams. The game went on decently but the map was soon over.
