Very poor performance on new gaming rig

I recently picked up a MSI gaming laptop. I know its only a laptop, but it runs GTA5 at high settings with no hiccups.

I cant get this game to run smoothly. Especially in deep foliage, smoke. I turned down shadows to medium, AA down to x4..its playable but I think thats pretty lame considering.

Intel I7
8GB ram
Nvidia 860m (4gb)

Its an MSI GE60 2PE

Thanks

PR is not multithreaded supported, doesn't support more then 3GB of RAM and all other stuff. PR will not run better on a new rig. Try for having a high clockspeed on your CPU.

GPU wise it seems PR runs better on some older cards then new ones. Every time I buy a new GPU I get worse frames with PR :D

Hmm ... I do remember not noticing FPS drops when I started playing PR, it was right before the 0.9.7.3 patch and I had either an AMD 4870 or an Nvidia 8800 GT, can't really remember.

Anyways after the 0.9.7.3 patch came along I stopped playing for 6+ months then got a new videocard and started noticing the FPS drops on certain maps.

But then again, maybe it's just in my mind since I wasn't constantly looking if my game is buttery smooth with the old video card, but with the new one I started to notice every stutter/fps drop I got.

Just throwing out some ideas here.. Do you have your power settings set to max/high performance while off/on battery? Nvidia settings set to high performance? May be limiting your hardware from its full potential..

Set PR affinity to one physical core.

Set everything else to different cores from the core(physical and logical) core PR runs on.

Which one?
Performance heavily depends on CPU clock and size of CPU cache. Mobile versions of CPUs usually downclocked for smaller TDP.

Pointless info. Low, Medium, High?

You could try to set everything on high?
I have read some topics about people having higher frames if they set the game on high, and lower frames when they set it on low.

Make sure you're launching PR with your Nvidia card, not your onboard one.
Check the Nvidia control panel to make sure it's set to the proper default gfx card.

can you expand on that? What is PR affinity?

You probably have Integrated Graphics selected. I was wondering why I have 15 fps earlier when I installed 1.3 then I remembered to change it in Nvidia Control Panel.
