I have had the same error. MikeDude suggested in IRC to try with a new Profile (I used my old 1.2 profile) and I havent had the error occur again. Maybe give it a try?

I got the same message. Like Ranz said, it's fixable if you completely remove your old profiles, under C:\Users\"Username"\Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles

You don't need a new account.
Delete your profiles in the profile folder and run BF2 vanilla once (sofar i remember you must run vanilla once to make a new profile or it can/will crash if you run bf2mods).
It will create a new profile config.
After this, you can play pr.

I can then copy all my video and controll setting over after correct ? also i dont have BF2 anymore, you mean PR BF2 1.3 correct ?

Yes, sorry didn't checked changelog that pr is now a standalone.

Normally, delete the configs. and create new ones (start game and change settings in the menu's and save) because your image of the error showing me that there is a problem with your old video. cons.

Ok, i will redo my graphics config, but will use my old controls.con as that did not give me a error.

I have the same error.

I already deleted Documents/ProjectReality and Documents/Battlefield2 folders.
Then I've set up the profile in the launcher again.
The issue still persists

Hey everybody,

this happens to me regularly. Never had this matter with the previous versions of the game before. Please do not forget this major issue and try to find some kind of permanent solution. It is extremely depressing after a long anticipation of trying to get into a proper server, establishing a good community, waiting for and finally operating heavy assets then finally boom: everything disappears. Fingers crossed for an asap solution.

Thank you in advance,

Reinstalling fixed the error for me.

I have tried everything, including reinstall, it always happens to me just as i get in a good squad and like 20/30 minutes into battle.

It happens completely randomly. Sometimes you can play for 1 hours without problems, sometimes 12.
You might just have luck.

It didn't fix it for me, anyway.

Edit:

Keeps happening and happening... really frustrating

Is there anybody looking after this? 4 threads have been opened reporting the same problem affecting a dozen players, still nothing.
