Your FPS experience isn't all that different from many, many others. I just upgraded my cpu from a 2.3 ghz q8200 to a 3.0 ghz q9650. I have a nvidea 750 gtx. I was running the same FPS as you before I upgraded my cpu. Now I'm pulling a pretty steady 60 FPS which is amazing to me after playing so long at 20-30. It seems you should be getting better results than what you are getting though. This game is CPU intensive for an older engine.

I am sorry, but even your CPU had 4.0 GHz it would not help you, because of weak AMD architecture.

Intel CPU's are far more superior. And PR is not GPU intensive game, but CPU, because of BF2 engine.

I am sorry, but generally AMD CPU's perform far worse than Intel ones in PR.

Set your video settings to Low from the PR Launcher , and also you can set sound settings to low too, this works for me and I have only Radeon(tm) HD Graphic 3.20 GHz
and 2 GB RAM :-)

Mine centrino 2 core 2.4Gig +15% turbo (really) 9600M GT 4GB RAM (yes laptop) playable on med with shadows and lights off.
Another 3.16 E8500 6870 1GB 3GB RAM very little improvement which I find odd.

Galil how is the evil fallujah on your old quad and GTX750 as that's an excellent value setup, PR should run the same on a Quad core or dual(if parking is optimised)?

Try force PR to use only one core, also you can try use some kind of game boosters.

That is not good idea for AMD CPU, because his laptop might melt down.

If your CPU has integrated graphics as yours does and you also have a dedicated graphics card, make sure that PR uses the dedicated graphics card. It's pretty easy on Nvidia but I have no idea how it's done on AMD, should usually be through AMD Control Panel.

The old BF2 Refractor game engine is limited to a single CPU core. It loves fast chips. The only significant gains people see is higher minimum frames per second after overclocking their CPUs. PR runs better on my LGA 1150 4790k quad core at 4.4 GHz compared to my LGA 2011 4930k hexacore at 4.2 GHz.

(Graphics cards are dual 780s in SLI)

TL;DR- if you're comfortable doing it, overclock your CPUs people!

It does pretty decent on Fallujah. Like all maps, when I look or face a certain direction my FPS drops to around 40 or so.

I wouldn't recommend setting PR to run on a single core. Though the main BF2 game engine is single-threaded - utilising only a single core of your CPU at any given time - some other processes the game runs run on their own threads, so should usually be distributed across other available cores.

Bottom line is BF2, especially PRBF2, requires a strong CPU single core performance. Having multiple weaker cores doesn't really help that much.

GPU-wise, even old P.O.S. cards can run PRBF2 well, so there's really no need to invest in anything fancy here. For example, I'm currently running a GeForce GTS250 512MB here at 2560x1440 with everything on HIGH - which is worth about £5 - but still get 60fps for the most part. CPU is a stock-clock i5-3570K.

What you were supposed to do is to put all background processes on a single core and let PR use rest of them(while avoiding hyperthreaded ones if available).

For AMD "halfcore" users(FX series), they can disable one "core" per module and get slightly better performance that way(because both "core" in a module share the same cache).
