So I was just wondering if it was ok to play without a microphone since mine isn't working at the moment.

Hello and welcome to PR.
The microphone is an essential tool that will help you communicate easier and with more effectiveness with your team mates. While you can still play PR without a microphone, most servers require you to have one otherwise you will be kicked.
Microphones, or headphones are available pretty much anywhere now and you can find them very cheap. Or alternatively, you can slave your smartphone (Android and iPhone) as a microphone for your PC. If you decide to go for this option and need help, feel free to contact me, I will help you set it up.
And the last thing, you aren't going to enjoy PR as much without a mic.

You can play without a mic, but to be honest it's not really ok. A lot of servers have microphone rules, where you'll be warned and then kicked. If you can join a server that doesn't kick you, you'll then need to find a squad to play with, where the squad leader will let you stay in their squad without a mic.
So you will be able to play with a little luck, but you won't make as many friends or have as much fun, as if you had a mic. The main reason being that typing up what you want to say isn't really possible when you're in combat, further, the rest of the team can't read what you write if you're wounded or dead.
So to summarise you can play (sometimes) without a mic, but you wont have as much fun, wont be as useful to your squad and will be missing out on some of what PR is all about. Try to fix or get a new mic if you can.
Cheers, Murkey.

You can play without a microphone, but communication will be much less efficient. Try to get a working mic as soon as you can

. Squad leaders most often prefer people _with_ microphones, so don't be offended if you get kicked from a squad. But sure, you can play without a mic.

You will typically find the in game community intolerant of players without microphones. NEW will kick you out of hand for not having one for example.
Best of luck to you.

yeah mat552 is right, no offence but i would kick you out of my sqd because you would be more of a hindrance than a help.
Dont get me wrong you dont have to be very talkative in a sqd but we need to know that if you need to tell us something fast you can.

Infantry can work, but for assets you really need a mic. The only asset you might be able to use without a mic is flying transport helicopters.

I have a mic only rule. Except now when 95% of the community is new and people have Mumble problems.
In a month, I'll go back to mic only. I can't remember a single no-mic player in my squad who wasn't rubbish.

Let's consider the following everday example: You see a guy, but he shoots you and kills you first. For any other FPS that wouldn't mean much, but here, without the ability to communicate with other players immediately(especially with your squad) your squad is left wondering:
-What killed you?(Infantry; APC; Tank)
-Where was your killer?(compass bearing; location in a building/on a ridge/etc.)
-Can you be revived? And is it safe to try that right now?
-How many enemies did you see? Was it just 1? Or were there 2? 5?
Like I said, this is a common thing to happen next to the other 100 things you wish you had a microphone for. Do yourself and the people playing with you a favour and buy a microphone. It is THAT important for this game to be fun.
PS: If you can't buy one at the moment, try the Coop-mode until you get one; the enemies are cannon fodder allowing you to take the first steps into the game(also have a look at the manual).

I used to play with a guy who could type incredibly fast, was intelligent, and he didn't have a mic, or couldn't use one because of his living situation. I didn't mind having him in my squad, even though it felt like I was kind of talking to myself.
Hopefully, the community will be a little more tolerant, but it is highly recommended to get a mic.

I think for a few weeks the mic-less wanderers are gonna be tolerated. But the vets (myself included) will likely start cracking down and kicking people from squads. Right now I just was in a squad with 2/8 people have mics. I am a bit worried the influx of new players may be too much.

I agree with this, we will tolerate it. But get a mic.. I can even send you money for it. This game needs it, otherwise you might aswell masturbate with a fryingpan, might be amusing at first, but downright bloody and quite sad in the end.
GET A MIC!

I hated this game the first day I played it. I never had talked with voip in a video game before so I didn't do it and didn't have a mic.
Week after I bought a mic and gave it a try, and decided to say a word or two. And well, still here

Game became a blast after that.
Game isn't the same without communication. And that works both ways.

I'm new to PR but a veteran to online shooters. I find it hard to believe in this day and age that people don't have mics or that they are always broken. I have several theories
1) you are very young and don't want to give it away by talking
2) you are very young and hence why you have managed to break every headset you have ever owned

3) you haven't played many online shooters, never heard of TeamSpeak, Ventrillo, or Mumble. You might live under a rock. Welcome to civilization my friend.
4) you're a girl and don't want people to know
5) you don't speak English well or at all. Hey, no one said you had to speak English. Just make an occasional grunt to let us know you're still alive

I think he majority of no micers are kids who a, don't want us to know or b, parent doesn't want to let them talk to pedo's like us on the net.
I don't mind a young voice as long as it does as its told and doesn't talk incessantly (I'v had a few that have).
Anyway I buy these cheap
Zalman mics which work great (so I'm told) and means I don't have to buy fragile 'gamer' headsets any more.
Just grunt yes that enough....or make a cough code so no one knows you're talking?

Hi DeaconFrost,
I see that you're from the Philippines. Myself and two other Filipino players have set up a Facebook group where Filipino players can organize to play PR together. There weren't many of us before, but since 1.3 has come out, we've seen a few new Filipino players who were asking around here if there exists a community or clan of Filipino players. You're welcome to join, and we'll do our best to teach you the ropes and make sure you have a great time learning the game!

Pero, kailangan talaga ng microphone dito. Kita-kits!
