reduce effects volume when piloting aircraft

Correct me if I'm wrong but Pilot helmets and head phones protect the pilot's ears from the very loud engines.

I don't know how to do it, but if possible reduce the sound effects to something like 10% when you are piloting an aircraft such as little bird/blackhawk etc?

The sound is already very much reduced, and is done by this line of code in the PCO, this one taken from the J-10 Pilot:

Code: Select all

ObjectTemplate.listenerObstruction 0.995
0 = you can hear sound outside sounds outside of the vehicle fine as if it was an open vehicle (like a WMIK Land Rover)
1 = you can't hear anything outside of the vehicle.

We may need to increase it a little more to something like 0.997 if players have an issue with its current level.

Ye, I hear people complain about it quite a bit. Don't have the issue myself since I put TS/Mumble though a separate 1 piece headset/mic that's connected to a separate soundcard so my ingame sounds come out of my speakers and voice chat goes directly into my right ear.

Wat? So you have sound coming from your speaker while you are using headphones to hear people speak?

I agree with OP, not so much in Jets but for sure in helicopters. It's annoying having to turn effects down every time you want to fly a chopper.

A 1 piece headset, pretty much like this one:

And can hear ingame sound fine around it since it hardly obstructs the speaker sound :)

And I pretend its a BOWMAN Radio :p

Dose mean however that I loose positional voice audio since its only mono :(

yeah and Rhino has open mike every night in TS

I wear cans like lots of players, using speakers is sacrilege

Level of sound in pilot/crewman helmets equal to loudness in usual helmet. I think he spoke about sounds outside of vehicle but close to it. For now this kits don't have profit, only add restriction

The NH90 pilot seat is still missing the lowered sound effects that every other helicopter pilot seat has.

The issue here is that sound volumes vary from different combinations of sound cards, settings and headsets.

I use an onboard sound card on Software high settings. I do have to lower in-game sounds to 20% to have a good balance of mumble comms and eveyrthing else. It's sometimes a little loud as passenger on helicopters, but in the pilot seat is just fine.

But I remember when I was testing some things and switching to Hardware would produce a very different result in the sound volumes. And disabling EAX as well. On top of that, I know for sure that people with off-board soundcards have even different results. And people with crazy good headphones even more.

So we can't code for all of that. People have to resort to different solutions to fix this. :S

generally, i set my audio to 30% as either pilot, or if i'm gunner in a vehicle (relying on vehicle commander here to kill engine and listen). 100% all else

Fixed :)
If you think some vehicle is missing the volume obstruction, feel free to make bug report about it. Same goes if you think something should not have the lowered volume, e.g. passengers outside the vehicle.

how about a hot key that drops your volume to a pre designated limit?

The biggest problem in my opinion is the Little Bird..... because it has no doors the volume is probably cranked to the max making it almost impossible to hear AA lock tones in my experience.

I don't know about chopper pilots, but in fighters the sound is incorrect.

You hear absolutely ZERO engine sound in real life. Only the radio comms, and a electronic buzz, and a slight whoosh, some breathing.

Afternburner is a very quiet sound, more of a sound change than increase.

From French fighter pilot giving examples of sound for a simulator:
WITH HELMET AND EARPLUGS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yze8Dclc1hY
JUST HELMET - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... seNtrdzNOM
^SAME JET NO HELMET - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... 1JS4IPmFMA

It is quite surprising how quiet it is in the cockpit, with helmet and earplugs he says.

superloud sounds is hollywood
