Light And Heavy support kit?

It would be good to have two sets not nessarily on the same map but on maps where you need to lay down some supressing fire to cove you squad or your team so that they can compleat their objectives knowing someones got them covered for the time being. If you have the kit you sprinting should be halfed or some other form of slowing the player down.
The weapones would be:
US
Heavy

Light
Normal support weapon M249

The M249 is the replacement for the M60. While the M60 hasn't been fully replaced yet, I doubt it's still seeing use on the front lines. If there were to be a light support kit, I would reccomend giving them an M16 with a drum magazine, and leaving the M249 for the heavy support kit, but there still isn't much of a point in having a light support kit.

if anything the heavy would be the M240G not M60. M240G is the Marine-based M240 and uses many types of 7.62 caliber rounds.

Wow. I've been gone for over a year, and still no M240G.
This is completely unacceptable. The M249 is designed to give a squad more firepower, but the M240G is for the company level. They're there to give more prolonged and powerful fire support.
The British should have this as well. I'm just stunned that this mod doesn't have two sets of MG for every faction. Absolutely stunned.

The possibility of light or general purpose machineguns in different kits rather than light machinegun/squad automatics has been discussed before. Please do a search. I'm glad you're taking the time to research other countries, though.
Also, the M60 has been out of US front line units as a platoon level GPMG since the late 1990s. Now we have the M240B (Army) and M240G (Marines), which is a variant of the FN MAG, like the British L7 GPMG.

I like you.
Sorry, I have a bad headcold. It makes me cranky.

Anyway, I'm just confused as to why this isn't a priority. The focus of this game seems to be on infantry combat, and without this weapon system, I feel that aspect is incomplete. I looked through the threads and all I saw was "we're planning this for later maybe".
Slightly off topic, what are your plans on mortars as well?

So, uh... where does your little plan leave the MEC, huh? They've already got what you would define as a "heavy" support kit, so what would they be getting? A man portable dushka?

I'd give em an RPK for the LMG, PKM or HK21 for Medium

The SEALs use M60, but since this is a USMC base game, they use M249. Unless you devs want to add the SEALs as a faction.

We have modeled a lower-poly GPMG for the UK vehicles, so it wouldn't be too difficult to model the infantry version, and derive from that the M240 weapons. It wasn't a priority because we were trying to get a class/kit limiting system to work, otherwise, we'd only have machinegunners and anti-tank gunners on maps.
We do want to include mortars, but as stated before, realistically (and play-ably) implementing man-portable ones into a kit is very difficult, so they may be limited to fixed positions and vehicles.

As stated many times before, the USMC is not the only US force represented in PR. As a fire-team/squad level light machinegun, all US infantry squads use the M249 SAW. At the platoon or company level, they have the M240B/G, operated by teams of two or three men.
The variant of the M60 the SEALs and other USSOCOM units use, the Mk-43, is being phased out by another M240/SAW relative, the Mk-46.

Probably the HK-23 to fit the same tier as the M249. I'd give the PLA the QJY-88 as their GPMG. The insurgents should get the RPK as their light machine gun.

Since we are so keen on saying that the Marines are not the only US unit represented right now, does that mean that the Army is a surprise for .5 or are you referring to future plans? I wanna know when I get to look like a moving Chainlink fence

a m16 with a drum mag= bad but a m4 with a shrike conversion = good
if they got rid of the m249 i would be devistated (im obsessed with them)
m240g is good
p.s. if u dont know wat a shrike is just google shrike gun in google picts

QJY-88 is something I can't remember anyone else having brought up on the forum.
It's a bit of an odd duck as a GPMG, as it does not fire a full-sized rifle cartridge, but the 5.8 x 42mm "heavy" cartridge used in the QBB-95 and QBU-88.
Also, the PLA seems to have a different 7.62 x 54mm GPMG depending on unit type. One is a locally developed, the Type 67, and the other is a knockoff of the PKM (can't remember designation off-hand- [Edit]Found it- Type 80)

It means that the Marines are not the only US force represented in PR
right now. But since you ask, in the future, near or long term, we will have US Army skins. If you don't like it, just keep saying "I am playing as a US Marine!" over and over again- but not on VOIP, or you'll probably be kicked.
