[HELP] what is groundhemi? is it important to generate?

hello...
i have been modding bf2 since years..but till now i havent understand the meaning of ground hemi. Is it important to generate for custom maps????
any help will.be appreciated...

The groundhemi.dds file is basically a huge square texture that's similar to the map's minimap and controls the darkness/lightness and coloring of all dynamic objects on a map. They also dictate where terrain LM shadows are in order to darken dynamic objects when they are under the shadow of statics etc.

It takes 5 seconds to generate and is extremely vital yes :)

ohkk.......but what will happen incase we havent generated it??? will the map crash?

No it won't. Soldiers,vehicles and others will generally appear way to bright or too dark. And LM's won't affect dynamic objects. I don't see why you wouldn't generate it though? It takes like no time/effort? It's automated. Compile tab in editor --> make ground hemi
