My computer is depressing, 4GB of Ram..two core processor...its depressing. I am thinking of building a new computer that will be 10x better. What do you think?

I'm going to suggest getting an SSD rather than the HDD. Look at the Samsung 850 EVO for the best value.

Don't forget a decent PSU for that GTX 980.

Why do you say SSD over HDD?

I already have a 600PSU, that should be plenty for everything, unless I'm mistaken.

Sad to say I would not get AMD in PR it's not any where as good as Intel.

I have just ordered a system based round a second hand I5 2500k which easily reaches 4.4 on the standard cooler. New intel processors and mobos coming out very soon, but since a few years very slight performance increases, just reduced power use.

Agree go SSD - I have Google it - much faster.

I came to the conclusion 16 GB was pointless for gaming at this time, unless you're doing HD video conversions. Google again.

90 dollars for the case seems extreme can't you use your old one?

Does your old pc have DDR3 ram?

If so, use it.

Go Intel, Like its a must for high end build. If you can afford 980, you can afford Intel. AMD consumes loads of energy, so switching to Intel you might end up grabing really nice 650W 80+Gold PSU. Also ignore AMD Radeon, cuz that is eating a lot of energy as well compared to GeForce.

Power consumption on the R9 Fury series is right at the same level as NVIDIAs Maxwell series.

To OP, read this review of the Samsung 850 EVO and you'll see why you should get an SSD.

I hate my old one, plus with that new case, If I wanted a CORSAJR H100 down the line, I can do so. That new case has a unbelievable amount of room.

My ram is DDR2.

You can install H100 in many cases.

To everyone else. I plan on doing this later in the year cause I dont have 1k laying around. I want to keep the GPU idea (GTX 980), and the amount of RAM (16GB, I used to make videos...probably will again.) I am just unsure about the motherboard and and CPU. Everyone seems to have mixed opinions on AMD or intel (for cpu's)

I don't think he suggested buying more DDR2, he seemed to be referencing the PC Part Picker list at the link and to add a second stick of DDR3.

There is no "mixed" opinion on CPUs; AMD is bad for gaming when you don't have a $500> budget(even then, intel offers actual upgradability so it's still easily competitive).

AMD themselves ship their products for review with intel CPU because they know.

By how much? 5 fps? Totally not worth spending on card extra 150$ that does consumes more power and has better performance by few percent IMHO.

And that liquid cooler aint helping either. What if someone does not need H100, but wants to go with H80, that is cheaper as well?

My main concern here is the PSU choice because you can save bucks on getting lower wattage block, but same gold rated and you are good to go.

Any how, about Intel. They just released new Broadwell line up of CPU's, so its worth looking into it, or you can save up a bit, by getting Haswell Refresh (previous generation) that will do the job as well

Another side note is, Broadwell uses DDR3L sticks, that are bit more expensive than DDR3 ones, so saving there as well.

5fps? Did you even bother reading before you decided to start to attempt to troll?

If fury x isn't much of fps gain over 980 then 980 is shit for being a lot more expensive than 390x but 1-2fps gain.

Then you go down the list for a 970 3.5GB because extra fps isn't worth it to you...lol.

Btw, 80+ Gold does not mean a PSU is nice. Efficiency on a label isn't an indication of quality, and PSU can be more/less efficient depending on the load.

The XFX PSU I posted in my list was made by Seasonic, which has quality that is very hard to beat by a cheaper 80+ gold 650w psu.

I have a very strict budget actually. I'm only looking to spend probably around 1200 ( a little wiggle room), I wont go past 1500. I will probably go with intel. Because I just remembered that I haven't had good luck with AMD. I will most likely be going with a i5 for my PCU. But...my question is...what motherboard? I never understood how to pick the best motherboard for your other components of your computer. I will have a GTX 980 for my GPU.

For a motherboard, look for the minimum amount of features you need and go with a reliable brand. Typically being ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSi (can't remember capitalization).

A good price point is right around $100.
