General gripe about CP capping

What is it with 75% of people who for whatever reason make little or no effort to cap CP's or move with any sense of urgency.

It drives me nuts to continually myself alone at a CP while the rest of my squad and most the team trail behind and smell the flowers or hang around on street corners.

I fear things are going to be even harder with AAS2 as people just wander around looking for people to kill then complain when we lose all the CP's. :? ??:

Prime example, yesterday I was playing Muttrah and I was MEC. We took docks off USMC in under 5mins and it was looking like it would be a very boring round. I decided to change sides and see if I could help USMC and to my surprise, the more I shouted at them to get the f*ck into the CP's and stop wandering around the more they did and amazingly we pushed MEC all the way back to wastelands with some great teamwork going on. 8)

However, why do the majority of players after all this time still generally not grasp the simple tactic of getting into CP's in numbers ASAP, taking up defensive positions if possible and clearing any enemy out AS YOU TAKE the flag rather than wandering around outside the cap zone like a spare idiot. There is of course a case with some CP's that you need people overlooking it or whatever to clear out certain well placed defenders but still, if you have enough bodies at a CP you can cover all the points and progress though the map very quickly.

People need to get some guts and start making an effort rather than holding back and letting others do all the work!

rant over :-D

100% with you there, people still aren't getting it.

I was SL on Karkand 2 the other night and told my squad to run straight to Western River at the start of the round so we could hold back USMC as long as possible making it easier to cap once we had Eastern. So there I am running into piles of smoke firing away like a bit of a head case and I turn round and see none of my squad mates. I made some noise anyway, 13 kills in about as many seconds.

It's funny how the concept is still alien to people even when it becomes fairly obvious, when you jump on a team full of the right people who push for CP's and you have the enemy back at their last CP with 200 tickets to spare. I still hold out hope that people will get it because it's still definately better than the headless chicken teamplay I was seeing back in 0.3.

well there is alot that the general amount of players dont think about..

1.Running along walls (its not better then running along a street, ever heard about spash damage).
2.Being in a squad dosent mean you get medic help (playing like a squad does tho)
3.Use the terrain (no dont walk where there is no cover use the shallow areas its a good place to go prone and minimise the risk of being spotted)
4.When squad leader says follow me ( he dont mean press your crouch against my *** its hold 5-10 meters between you and a squad mates, for easy access and to avoid getting killed with one nade/shell.)
5.Ever heard about cover fire?
6.Flanking (thats moving around your enemy not around a Building)

seems alot of the community players dont realise that alot of the military tactics seen on videos or being tought in the military really works ingame.

Use your brain and play smart and for god sake dont forget to communicate.

for all the new ppl i suggest reading the nice tutorials we have made for new ppl to get a advice or two, you find em here

I don't find inter-squad organisation is a problem for the most part. It's organising the entire team, which without voice comms is difficult, plus it's more likely you will get 6 team player's in a squad than 32 spread across an entire team.

yeah...It happen to me yesterday night on IGI...before get infiltrated and staying about 20 meters from enemys flag ...I told my unknown people squad to storm de flag several times...and nobody wants to move their asses...I get desperate and leave the game very frustrated...it drives me to make squads only with players I know......anyway I think if scores disappear in game everything would be different...

I love it when half of my team lurks around the Hotel flag when the Gas station isn't even captured on Muttrah
Also popular: Camping on one side of the river on Strike 2, and then shooting teammates who are just getting the flag on the other side.

There needs to be an advantage to taking CPs. Currently few maps have ticket bleed unless you have all but 1 CP. I think we should discard the ticket system and instead determine the winner based on how long they have held the number of CPs. Then run each map on a fixed timer. The map will end when one team captures all the CPs, One team has held more than half the CPs for more than half the map time or time has expired.

Excellent points boss!

If people rushed it in small groups you can take the flags in no time at all. Sometimes I get the feeling people don't understand how to take flags. Part of me thinks they like to spawnrape the flag, so instead of taking it they just stand outside the radius waiting for the enemy to spawn.

Shouting does help sometimes, using the commo rose to ask for backup is the biggest waste of time you could ever try, but typing in caps does help sometimes.

Been in some great squads lately and we have all crowded into the flags quick. A few names that spring to mind are the GB clan guys, Batalla of course, Top Cat and a few others who I have temporarily forgotten. No offence!

Couldn't agree more Greg. It's probably THE most ignored commo-rose setting in the whole game.
"We need reinforcing: do you copy?"
Whistle in the wheatfields guys, whistle in the wheatfields. Half of them are too busy spamming for sniper kits to give a toss :|

LOL

I feel a bit guilty of doing excactly what is described. Not completely unknown for most of the responders of this post, you have all seen me do some pretty stupid stuff.

That said, here is some gripes that I don't get; there is something to be said about extremely aggresive, but
  • You don't send a corpsman in as point
You don't ***** about not beeing revived when your corpsman lies dead because of your orders, just 10 seconds before
You don't disregard somebodies intel and then ***** when half your squad is dead
You don't take point and run smack into 15 hostiles while 5 of your squadmates are trying desperatly to spawn on you
Slowing the tempo down so that you can gather you ENTIRE squad before moving in is not beeing a sissy, but beeing a wee bit smarter than cannon fodder
When somebody is under intense fire, don't just yell "move your fat arse over here - corpsman! - What? Your dead? Stupid cow!" Help the poor soldier out!
Introduce the MEC or USMC marathon and run like the wind, effectivly cutting of yourself with your entire squad, then ***** about the others beeing slow.
Oh, and since this is a gripe - when I say that theres a very competent sniper on the western flank and he keeps killing me and he needs taken out before I can move towards the flag ... resulting that I get killed 10 times in a row and then get a big lecture how disappointing I am ...

After round after round of behaviour like that, I don't move a muscle unless I know the players around me or the SL. If stupidity keeps getting me killed, then I'm gonna slow down and get my bearing before I run right infront a tank in hopes of saving my SL.

Yeah, i'm sure whoever has seen me on Thors or IGI knows how annoyed I get at my own team......

Players have to learn to fan out to avoid getting spotted, giving away other peoples positions, giving away their squad leaders position.

People need to learn to move fast (my character ingame has super stamina apparently) no matter what class I play, I seem to be always marking the map for movement purposes and then getting there first.

Squad leaders need to hang out of the way for spawning purposes (can spot for troops from there)

when an order goes out to "get bodies on that flag" everyone should move as fast as they can for it. the more people on a flag, the faster it goes down. get it neutral and theres a delay before enemies reach you since they are moving from the flag back from it, have a defensive guy or two towards their flag to slow them down and you have even more time on the flag to take it from neutral to owned!

Well sometimes the team gets left behind because retards take all the transports... with no passengers. Then you have to foot it.

I do think there is a bit of a 'M4' effect here. As things where back to an acceptable level beforehand.
But god a bit after the last patch went out and people started to see how the M4 RulZ its been horrible.
On one hand you have the US team who is very happy sitting on their butts whoring away with their new toy.
And on the other hand, MEC keep stacked up behind cover for fear of the mighty M4 ...

God today on Sak2 our SL had positioned himself on the west river side (we're MEC) as US has just taken our east flag. Twice we slowly take the flag defenders by surprise, grey it ... and have our whole team position itslef like in a amphitheatre and just let us die and the flag go back up ...
And of course our team lost badly.

And it was like that pretty much the whole afternoon. But well likealways after a fresh batch of BF2 meat, some will learn, the others will leave. In the mean time its just very frustrating.

I've been observing the problem since BF:V so it's nothing new. Just some weird bad pub mentallity.

I think the idea behind lurking around a flag is to clear the area in order to make it safe to move in. Since the enemy keeps popping out of the ground, it makes it impossible to clear. I have noticed that people tend to move in on flags that are not spawn points where they will linger around the spawn point flags.

Making less flags spawn points would solve this problem and make the mod more realistic. If I have to spawn at the staging area, then I need to hop in a hummer and drive to a flag to insert and either defend it or attack the next one. That is far more realistic than just popping out of the ground in the middle of the action.

PR guys, please consider this.
