Death by melee intentional?

When I was playing the map "Gaza Beach" as the IDF in the Insurgency game-mode, my team members and I saw a player on the Hamas side that was unarmed. My instinct told me to run after him and melee him for more info on a cache location. When I successfully catch up to him, I hit him with my rifle butt. Instantly, I learned that the melee actually killed the player and I got a penalty for it. The IDF does not have restraints in their equipment, so I assumed that hitting them with a melee attack would work. Is the death by melee action programmed into the game, or is it a glitch?

Hmm... that is interesting. I would have assumed the melee attack would have "restrained" the civilian too if IDF doesn't have proper restraints. Instead it's the equivalent to a knife/bayonet?
I haven't played that map on the INS layer in a long while. I'm not sure if it's been like that or if it was a one-time weird glitch for you.

It was always like that. Same as on Marlin where French have knifes and cannot restrain the civis with it.

There are limited kits on IDF and French that support arrests, so I assume its intentional.
These notes were taken from SwampFox's Civi Guide which you can read
here.
Opposing Team Notes:
IDF can only arrest with a few number of kits such as
Breacher (specialist)
Automatic Rifleman (AR)
Machine Gunner
Sniper
Crewmen kits
Combat Engineer
French
Crewman
Automatic Rifleman (AR)
Machine Gunner
The sniper may have zip-ties as well but I haven?t verified this.

Good Evening,
It's good to see someone reading my CIVI guide. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE
Yep, anything but restraints and shotguns will kill a CIVI not arrest him.

I understand that a knife can kill, but in real life, a rifle butt can knock someone out. Looking at the comments though, getting killed by a melee attack, no matter what weapon is being used, was programmed into the game.

All IDF kits should have restraints , in real life most IDF combat soldiers have those in their handle exactly for this purpose.

Good Morning,
If your working on a fix for this then make ROE a part of all Insurgent factions. With only 2 out of 6 Insurgent factions (if my math is right) with ROE, it makes the maps with the 4 others a steamroll. So if all Blufor factions can arrest any of the 6 Insurgent factions, make ROE part of all of them.
You know what's funny is that most of the players that love AAS absolutely hate vehicle warfare where there is an abundance of assets. Maybe of just one kind but still, an abundance of them. Go figure.

We have all
heard stories of the respect and dignity with which Chechen insurgents were treated by Russian forces, it definitely makes sense to implement an "ROE" ruleset to the Militia faction in accordance with how the Russian Federation is known to conduct warfare against irregular forces or those it calls terrorists.
The Chinese government is also widely acclaimed for their tolerance of internal dissent, I'm sure they would calmly and rationally establish a humane manner of dealing with potential collaborators with an armed Militia that sprung up within their area of responsibility, particularly if that Militia laid hands on armored fighting vehicles.
Similar sentiments about the interactions between the powers that would make up the MEC against the Rebels.
The Taliban could probably go either way, depends on a map to map basis I suppose. I'd probably have to agree that if it's all or nothing and the "Insurgent" faction get it the Taliban probably should as well.
