VoIP

I've heard a lot of great stuff about Project reality and I've been watching it for some time now. I think I would really enjoy playing it but there is one (big??) problem for me, I don't have any working mic so I won't be able to use VoIP. Seeing that most of you guys love the fact that VoIP is being used so much I wonder if I should start playing Project reality.
What do you guys think I should do? Just start playing and see where I end up or is playing pr without a mic a lost cause to start with?

P.s. sorry if this is in the wrong section or if something like this has been posted before (I couldn't find anything specifically awnsering my question) just close this one and tell me to look some more on the forums.

I would say just play it. Voip is nice but not neccesary, I have moments that I'm not in the mood to use Voip. But didn't you already play this game? I think I have seen your name in a server sometime if I'm not mistaken.

Can't be hard spending money????
O dear haven't I told you I'm dutch?? spending money?? I'd rather cut off my hand (well ok maybe not actually cutting it off but you get the point)

I actuallt have a mic but the headphone it's conected to is broken. So I technically I can play with VoIP but without sound :-? . Anyway thanks for the reply`s I'll try playing and make sure I'll get a new mic.

Hope to see on the battlefields.

I'd say it's most important for the SQUAD LEADER to have VOIP - but you can get by without it as a squad member.

However - I strongly suggest you beg borrow or steal a mic in order to get the most out of this mod.

It drives me nuts when squad members don't talk to eachother...

i actually only use the mic from my headset and have it around my neck, instead on my ears ;)
i find it more comfortable to play long times without headphones and i prefer my surround sound over a stereo sound headset ^^

Why not plug the headphones with mic into the mic jack and your speakers (or whatever your other sound thingy is, presumeubly you must have one) into the sound output jack? Its not ideal, but it *should* work. And I'm sure it'll tide you over until you can pluck up the courage to buy a new mic/headset...

well the majority of the players don't use voip so you shouldn't have a problem. But it's definitely recommended to get one, I bought my mic for like 6e, it's cheap but it works. But usually I don't even play unless I can find a squad that uses voip, it just adds so much to the teamplay.

Aww man. I read through this whole thread with two points I wanted to make, and they were made in the last two posts.

1) The majority of people don't use VOIP. It's just that people dedicated enough to be on the forums are also people that like tons of teamwork.

2) Use the mic from your headset and your speakers for sound. Or if you need headphones for sound, put your mic headset around your neck and your headphones over your ears.

Damn you people. GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

Its ok if one or two squad members dont have it, but any more than that and its too difficult to communicate quickly and effectively in a squad and you become much less effective. Not to say you can't play though.

What I hate is when people can't even *hear* VOIP. It happens quite often for some reason.

It's also good to use the text if you don't have a mic.
Let the SL know you don't have a mic and use the commo rose to answer questions and you can communicate pretty well with very little actual typing.
I am a pi$$poor typist in game and hate to use it but it comes in handy to alert other squads and sometimes as commander when you feel that the SL are not relaying all the info to their members.

I dont mind if one or two dont use VOIP, but the ones who can't hear it get kicked from the squad. I always ask if they have a mic, if no, I ask if they can here me.

If they type "no" it is quite obvious that they could hear you...
