a possible way to change map textures in bf2 ?

hello,

recently i tried to retexture a vanilla bf2 map (dalian plants) by turning it into a desert map, but i failed (the editor kinda sucks and is very complicated and very unsupported for newer systems), now my question is: is there a way to change the ground textures with the texteditor ?

i mean, is it somewhere in the mapfiles written which texture and ground materials it uses ? because it would be alot easier to replace the lines where the ground textures and materials are defined to change from example grass.dds to >desert.dds

Yeah, just grab this, and put stuff from <mapfolder>/colormaps to PS properly.
Not sure how change materials through, they're probably coded in binaries.

Not kinda, but it's sucks :)
Mostly because if you're gonna do mapping, you'll have to touch that poop.

Need hexeditor for materials (?). Or you can go into editor and paint a small area with new materials and resave textures + terraindata(not sure if it's necessary to paint, might work by just changing materials and resaving).

thanks guys, i will try painting it again before going to this step. my problem was that when i painted the desert textures, it didnt overdyed the grass texture, but it mixed it with the grass texture, so at the end it looked like grass with a mix of stone and desert color lol. i will go through the tutorials again

make sure you have selected Color + Detail on your brush settings
