So do combat troops IRL really don't carry sidearms during operations?

Or was that a gameplay-based decision to remove them from most kits? I'm not suggesting anything, i'm just wondering.

'cuz I would have imagined that they did...

Pistols are not standard issue, some officers have them, and you can buy your own and take it, but not standard.

They're definetly not standard in the British army, and, AFAIK, not many atall. The thinking being that if one has to fall back your your sidearm you're probubly already pretty fooked. So its better to use the wieght to carry an extra magazine or two for your rifle.

Hmm, not sure about our armies nowadays, (US, that is) But i know during WWII and 'nam omly NCOs and officers were issued pistols, PFCs had to get their own (a vast majority of the infantry)

Yes, I'd buy my own in case of jamming.

desert eagle it up lol, i have one under my bed, it would weigh more then the rifle, well not really but its huge. and cost a fagillion dollers to shoot. but the 300 grain bullet will go through body armor without a problem, you just point it and people and they die, targets and they fall over. ;-)

It has been repeatedly stated that all classes will not be equipped with sidearms in Project Reality because, as has also been repeatedly stated, not all soldiers or Marines are equipped with sidearms. Please do a search. :)

Military police (including criminal investigations personnel), security forces, crew-served weapon gunners (medium machineguns, mortars, man-portable rocket launchers/recoilless rifles/ATGMs), tankers, aviators/aircrew, Navy VBSS teams (manned by trained personnel from each ship), snipers and certain combat arms officers and NCOs carry sidearms, as well as special operations forces. Most troops will never even qualify with the pistol.

Bringing privately owned weapons on a deployment is a no-no and any you purchase or otherwise acquire in the field you will not be able to get back through customs when you head home.
