What's with the slow downloads?

How come I can't get better than 250kb/s downloading this mod? That was what I got on File Planet, where I can sometimes get as much as 1mb/sec downloading other stuff. All the other mirrors were averaging around 100kb/s... guess I won't be playing this mod until I can dedicated an overnight download..

Try bittorrent, I think the speeds are about the same though :(

I use uTorrent for torrents. No **** comes with it. The entire program is 170 kB.

http://www.utorrent.com/

Download it, then get the torrent file:

Then start downloading PR!

Well, I tried File Planet and I'm getting a little over 400kb/s, which is about 1/2 of what I should get. For some reason the latest client file isn't in their BF2/mods/pr section, but there's a link to the file on on the homepage here. Apparently the latest PR client files aren't stored in the right section. Also, they aren't available to be downloaded by File Planet subscribers via the downloader program that File Planet offers, which usually gives the best download speeds.

Just FYI - Here's File Planet's PR section:

http://www.fileplanet.com/filelist.aspx?s=102646&v=0

Latest version is 0.32.

While I'm posting about File Planet.. check this out:

http://www.fileplanet.com/battlefield2/

They list PR, version 0.32 at the bottom of the "Featured Files" list. Damn, they are behind the times, aren't they? :)

Only by a couple months. And bittorrent isn't exactly a filesharing program.

Why do people complain about 250k or 400k? You'd still download the mod in like 3 hours. What's the big deal.

Back in the Doom days I had a 14,4 modem, and I'd download files at 1k if i was lucky (granted the files were a lot smaller). But still I don't understand these complaints, and I'm not just talking about this guy, but complaints I hear similar to this. "Omg it's going to take 4 hours to download this file therefore somehow I cannot download it at all!!!" It makes no sense to me.

Most of us sleep right? I know I do, usually every night. Telling me you can't leave it on to download over night, or during the day when you go out to work or school or whatever....

Same thing with guys I know, try to get them to download the mod, and they are like omg 1 gig, thats too big to download. What!??

Back in my day, we didn't have to download gigabytes worth of mod just to see the final product. But then again, back in my day, I don't think PR 0.1 was even out.

I think today might be my day again. Hello, internet.

I complain, because for most downloads I can get 800kb/s to 1+mb/s from File Front. For some reason the PR client files hosted there aren't hosted in the regular PR section and they aren't available to download via File Planet's downloader program, which gets very high speeds. Last night I downloaded some piss-ant little mod for ROOST that doesn't even have any servers running and THAT was able to be downloaded via their downloader at much faster speeds than the far superior PR mod.

The guys here at PR should contact File Front about that. It would definately encourage more downloads if you could get more than 140kb/s.

Oh sure, next you're going to be spouting off about these mythical "records" and "8-tracks" that I've heard about. Bah.

To be honest, you have to be a complete idiot for anything you download from limewire etc to harm your computer.

Yes, that's a fraction of my maximum speed. I average around 700-800kb/s, with 1+mb/s sometimes with downloads from File Front. This is on a home cable connection.
