How to avoid TeamKilling

I am sort of new at this game and sometimes I teamkill my mates... How can I avoid that?
The uniforms look the same, and I don't know if the guy is friendly or enemy, I don't know if he's from MEC or USMC... What is the best way to avoid that?

If you have the option, open the map and see if the place where you see them has friendly's in the area. And uniforms definitely don't look the same. They have differences that you will learn over time.
Most importantly is think before shooting

Ask a squadmember, check the map, zoom in, etc...
This thread about the same topic will have lots better and more tips:

Thanks for the tips! I will follow them, but sometimes it's really hard because when you are in close quarters, in a building you haven't got the time to do that. But I think that your tips will help, I must be more cautious and pay more attention.
By the way, how can I rank up in the forum? I see guys with the seargent, brigader, and I am just a private, how can I be promoted?
Many thanks

You get promoted with post count, Mineral probably got Brigadier General at 5,000
And I got Staff Sergeant at 350

Press CAPs+LOCK to open the squad map. Click on your name to turn it white. This will also turn your dot on the map white.
Look north, south, east and west of your dot. Note where the friendly dots are. (Tip: enemies will not show up as dots.)
Press CAPs+LOCK again and check the compass at the bottom of the screen. Were there friendlies in the direction you want to shoot?

Shoot first, say sorry later!
But check your map... and ask via local mumble if their friendly.

When you star playing some factions look very similar, but you learn the diference over time.

Get a much bigger computer screen. It will be easier to see the details of people.

Experience is the key factor in distinguishing uniforms. It took me time, but yet I don't think I can explain how I can tell, it's just pattern recognition I guess.
Also, shouting at them on mumble helps. Remember, enemies can't hear you on mumble.

In close quarters communication is the most important. For example, if you're entering a building with multiple floors and rooms, always make sure to look at your map to see if there are friendlies inside the building. If there are ask in local what their position is in the building and announce yourself when going up stairs and/or going into rooms. If friendlies don't worry about replying to you, you don't need to worry about shooting them by mistake.

Best approach is to shoot first, ask questions/apologise/get kicked from squad/banned from sever, later.

There are always two tones, even if the colors are very similar.
With Rebels and Insurgents, there are generally more colors to their uniforms than that of a uniform that belongs to a countries army. As to where a country that has thrown money at gear and equipment can be seen in the geometries(silhouette) of the model at distance due to the vest, backpack and/or helmet being used.
I've been playing for a while, and some times I get confused, specially when a new update with goodies and /or changes roles out. What I do at first spawn is look for a blue or green map dot to go to and stare at a for a second to take in what I look like. Ingrain that into my mind before attaching myself to a squad and head into the zones.
Space bar is 'fire' by default, IIRC. Long time ago I changed my spacebar to 'quick map'[Default "M" key]. Helps a bunch!
If you have a group with you and you see a target and it does not see you, get confirmation from your other squadmates or smurfs that might be around, or have better optics.
In a group dynamic with countries that follow specific ROE, if you see a possible target and it does not see you, you should inform your SL of that possible target and ask for orders, unless/until your target spots you and engages. Returning fire is usually not an issue. If you are being shot at by friendlies, an automated "cease fire" will radio. The same automated "cease fire" will radio if you fire on a friendly.
The learning curve of PR is not hard, but it's challenging. That's the thing though, PR is supposed to be a challenge.
That's how I see it anyways!

With the knowledge of what each faction looks like, a combination of hovering the mouse over a person to see if nametags appear (not always guaranteed) and looking at the minimap in reference to where you are aiming.

If you're on a small monitor like me and everything is blurry pixels, the answer is constant awareness of friendlies using frequent map checking and comms. I always announce myself in close quarters to save others the trouble, and especially when flanking, going up stairs, and picking up enemy kits.
