Where all the players go?

did I miss the hype train?

The official beta is over, but you can still play it as long as there are servers for it. OD-S right now is the only one, I think. The server is mostly populated during European afternoons and evenings.

You're posting this at 6AM my time, when most of the players are in their beds .

I do not think so mate, Its in beta and will soon be out. When it is all we need is a you-tuber or something to get the ball rolling. Not to mention the community around PRBF2.
I have just discovered this and came from a mod called i44 for Arma 2 and this is just what im looking for.

Is there a timetable set for what month or quarter this gets out of beta?

Or will it be Soon™? (which would be fine too).

Nothing we want to make public (always hard to gauge new content release times!) so I'm defaulting to Soon(tm)
