Launcher is broken

After PRWWII ended, I stopped playing PR entirely for about a month. Today I decided to go back and revisit it. I clicked on the desktop shortcut, the launcher appeared, I hit play, and the screen turned black and started loading as usual. Then, after a few seconds, it backs out to desktop and says, "BF2 has closed; cleaning up resources", and just ends. If I go into my files, nothing appears to have changed. I am updated to the previous version, and I have checked to see if I have McAfee. As far as I know I don't. Is anyone else having this problem? Is reinstalling PR the only way to fix it?

I had the same problem with vanilla PR and WW2. I fixed vanilla by setting the whole PR folder in my documents to Read-Only and that helped. Playing in an offline account while disconnected from the internet fixed WW2 for me.

I recently did a reformat on my laptop, did a fresh install of PR and retrieved my previous account. I played offline for a bit to test out my settings and when I logged into my online account this problem came back. I tried all the fixes above but none worked. Setting Profiles to read only also resulted in a validation error which told me to either Reset my profiles or uncheck read-only. Both did not work. Creating a new profile does not work.

Reinstalled PR and did not update. It's fixed so it means that it has something to do with the latest updates. Net is **** right now, I'll update this when I can download the patches.

Fixed: It probably has something to do with WW2. Installed. Played on an offline account while disconnected from the internet. Both work now.

Update: Broken again. Fix above doesn't work. Pls help devs.

I've attempted to fix the shader issue for 1.4.

Found out upon inspection that it's a problem where some shader caches saved causes the ProjectReality folder to set itself as read-only, preventing the launcher from reading the files. Could explain some crashes between map loads.

In the meantime, try clearing the shaders. Do it by going to Support, and then Utilities. Click on Clean Shader Cache.

Then add PRLauncher.exe and PRBF2.exe to Mccafee's exceptions as there's a chance it might be interfeering.
