Boltcutters?

Would it be possible to implement a boltcutter tool that can be used on the link fences and Rhino's new and exciting razor wire?

The precut holes in fencing we have now are predictable (fixed location) and strange in that a somehow cuts were made prior to any battle. This would be an excellent component to go with the new destructible buildings in future releases. Both complete and cut statics already exist of course so this might not be too difficult to implement.

Sounds good to me, and with most good things it also sounds impossible.

no i see what hes saying. just like the destructable buildings. Maybe instead we could give the knife a purpose and use that. Just make it so the fence has a health percent meter thingy like vehicles and can be destroyed forming a hole in the fence.

if you where under fire im sure you wouldnt want to sit there cutting each bit of wire :p

if you watch saving private ryan (or saving ryans privets, can never remember which way round it is :p ) at the start you watch the US guys landing on the Normandy beaches blow a whole though the wire with explosives. What I want to see is the same thing ingame, guy sets a claymore up infront, C4 or SLAM and blows his way through :)

EDIT: also they aint my razor wire, thank matt.b for that ;)

Well, if we've got bulidings we can blow up, it can be such a leap in coding terms to make cuttable fences, can it? (Warning: I have about as much idea about coding as a blind, stoned badger, so I may be spouting lies.)

TRIggS, Its not Rambo! You cant cut fences with just a knife! (Well, not very easily, anyway)

*runs to the nearest field to stab barb wire with a knife*

i see the point hes makin its trying to save the work of modeling wirecutters,

i think it comes how to how the barb wire is used, if its in the middle of a fire fight then u blow it up, but if its around th back of a base and you want sneak in then you want to do it with out a geat big "im over here" explosion

Rhino, wasn't that to kinda blow up the freakin' huge concrete wall instead of the barbed wire?

Fine, watch "Big Red One" and in the Normandy landing sequence they blow the wire with bangalore torpedoes.

I think it's a great idea!

I was trying to make the knife useful. Right now it is almost a weapon just to score more points. I believe you get more points knifing someone than shooting them which is what we want NOT to happen. why stab someone in the leg when you can shoot them in the head. At least with the knife wirecutter it would give the knife more meaning.

why? cos the knife makes no sounds (apart from ingame the guy screaming in pain) and should be used as a stealth weapon. I know in OGT if I see a squad running past what I do is like to creep up behind, knife as many as I can before they relize whats going on then i get my squad to start shooting at them as if you just fire at them, they can easily duck for cover and you may have took 1 or maybe 2 down but then they know just where you are etc. If you can take some out with a knife they either wont have a clue, or be very confused about whats going on. In that state you can easily kill off there entier squad.

unless they use voip, which will lead to 5 guys pointing their guns at you while you just stand there with a knife. :D

not really, cos you have your own squad behind you marking out there targets while anouther member is doing all the knifing work. If the knifer sees any suspissions of them knwoing heres there, or if the squad heres any fire they will open fire.

And even if the guy is knifed, all he can say is "ive been knifed", which makes the squad confused as they dont know where he was, or where the enemy is so while they are confused and trying to work out whats going on you can probaly knife anouther guy in that time and if you see them turn around to face you, you just tell your squad to open fire and pull out your own gun. Very few times it aint worked for me i can tell you, around abouts 80% of the time when i get a chance to do this I kill the entier other squad with very few cashutlies, normally only 1 or 2 tops.

Its all about getting the enemy confused ;)

Actually, one feature of the M9 bayonet and of the SA80 bayonet is that they can be attached to their scabbards in a certain way to form wirecutters (see attached). :)

We can have breachable doors; this doesn't sound overly difficult, but I'm not a coder. I think its a pretty good idea. :)

Sorry, edited my post. I meant to say we can have breachable doors/objects. We experimented with them, but I don't know what limitations there are to it. :)

Alright, It is confirmed - breachable doors in all buildings in .5
*Goes to the press*

LOL I wish. No ETA on breaching. But we are working on it. :)
