Why is my side(left and right) view distance higher than my front view distance?

Dunno, but it's the same for everyone. Great way to spot targets at longer distances.

IIRC in bf2 fog renders in at a strait line from directly in front of you rather than in a circle or arc around you, thus as you move farther left or right on your screen the distance to from you to that straight line increases and allows you to see farther.

It has some sort of a POV effect which I hate. It's the same in many other FPS games. The easiest way to notice this is to focus a player and turn left and right and you'll see his body shift size. This is very ugly IMO and deforms pretty much anything on the sides as well as gives an unfair advantage over the view distance.
