.50 cal's/12.7mm does have penetration off mud walls both in reality and in game. Get a technical and exact revenge.
.50 rounds go through the wall, through the bad guy, through another bad guy, through the other wall, through the cow out back.....

It can lead to some frustrating situations, like on asad khal MEC vs IDF layer, the mec can build HMGs looking down into the town and fire through literally every building in the city.

I've been playing PR since 0.91 and only know get to know of the fact that .50 cal overpenetrates so much? Amazes me.
Anyway, if it really can go through 2 walls then I'd probably say "Nerf it!' so it goes max through 1 wall. I'm no expert, but a wall (be it the middle eastern sand one) would probably change the trajectory of a bullet. Enough to not kill the stuff sitting in the opposite side of the room (if it's really possible like YAK-R mentioned in Asad).

Surprisingly, BF2 actually models penetrations fairly detailed. Projectiles can be set to
a) (not) penetrate specific materials
b) lose energy (= velocity& dmg) on each penetration
c) have a max no of possible penetrations --> Most (if not all) projectiles will not penetrate more than two walls
d) be randomly diverted from their original flight path from 0-x degrees on penetration
And PR makes good use of that, and most bullet-type-projectiles have this set up pretty plausibly
The bigger issue is that BF2's collision detection sometimes is a bit whacky, adding an additional layer of unwanted randomness to it all ("super penetrations" etc.) . It's also something that cannot be modded, so we just have to "deal with it".
However:
The ability of heavy MGs and autocannons to penetrate thin metal, wood and even thin brick& mortar has been there forever. Even BF2 vanilla used a variety of penetrable materials. Even then it still is just little known , most just don't expect it from such a "simple arcade FPS" engine.

M4 can shoot through 2 factory walls

I would think that would be realistic given the velocity of a M2 .50 round hitting what is essentially a mud hut, but in terms of gameplay I could see why a gun that can spray the inside of any of the mud huts that cover this map being OP.

I thought a bit more about it and I'm taking back the words said in my earlier post.
If I have played PR from 0.91 and haven't noticed any (over)penetration except the one that happens when lighter materials (wood planks, metal plates, steel hangars, etc.) enjoy a company of a bullet (dunno from what caliber regular material pen starts; I'd guess that one needs at least basic assault rifle 5.56/5.45mm to penetrate stuff, and it seems that not only the thin materials suffer - as seen in STompas video) - a mere 5.56mm can pen 2 concrete/brick walls like a APFSDS shell on a extra dose of steroids.
Anyway, In all these years I have never ever had a similar situation or heard anyone complaining about someone abusing penetration mechanics/overpenetration. Interesting. Hmm, are clanmen ususally the first ones to know these things (well, except DEVs)? I mean, words spread quicker when there's more mouths around. And clans tend to check different aspects of the game a random regular player wouldn't be interested in as he alone can't "abuse" (as efficiently) the potential of an aspect that really shouldn't be there in the first place.
But TBH I really don't care that much about this subject and I noted why - because this all is like news to me, and in my 1000h+ PR praxis I've yet to encounter an abuse of something like this. But who knows - I don't check every match recording where there were a moment of total "WTF, where did I got killed from / WTF, who and how killed me?!" So it may be possible that I've died by this horrific abuse of a bug and still don't know it.
Thankfully, I'll never know.

Stompa's video is a perfect example of those "freak" penetrations I mentioned. Somtimes BF2 collision detection is just whacky. Or Amriki just bled out at exactly that moment and the whole video is a fake .
Spraying buildings with 50cal can work, but you rarely kill "everyone" inside, due to reduced damage and deflections. Even vehicle-mounted 50cal magazines are limited, asnd it takes quite a while to cover every possible square inch with bullets. And if the building occupants aren't stupid, they'll take the hint after the first salvo(s) and start to look for a better position...

Nah video isn't fake. He wasn't damaged before i started shooting.

While it looks like it shot through 2 walls, in terms of the engine it only shot through one. The walls are one sided, so when the projectile exits the warehouse it will not collide with it.
Either way, this should be fixed i guess

I don't know whether it's true in real life or not, but it's rather annoying on Ramiel.
