I am getting worried - we are at 0 on the 11/5 and I remember the last two months it hasn't reached its target. I know before we had a few very good months but that was quite a while ago.

Only recently has the cost of the master server been added to this donation fund, prior for 5 years it was being paid by a developer Ancientman if we haven't got the MS then we can't play. I know to some it may seem a lot of cash but there was a big clean up a while ago with one of the goals being value for money.

I will donate 10 now to get the chart of that awful 0.

As I mentioned last week, donations at the moment only pay for our website, and some other behind the scenes things like our repositories. There are two servers that cost us $319 USD / month, and the donations pay for these. On top of this, I have my own server, which provides services such as our build server, test server, file hosting, project management tools, mumble, PRSPY, various utility scripts, and up until yesterday, the master server. This costs me $99 USD / month, which I pay for out of my own pocket, and have done so for the last 5 years or so. There is also a CDN which I also pay for which hosts some critical things, but that's like $2 / month, so it's not really worth mentioning.

Anyway, for those who know how much these sorts of things cost, it's clear our costs are way over the top, over $400 / month, and for the last 3 years or so we've been trying to consolidate servers and reduce our costs. Unfortunately, our web admins have been pretty inactive, and haven't been able to get anything done about it.

So instead of waiting for the web admins, we are now actively working (over the next few weeks) to just get this done already. It's been pushed back and back, and with all these attacks it's finally pushed us over the edge where we can't deal with it anymore.

Unfortunately, issues like inactivity are a common part of working on a volunteer mod development team, where you don't get paid and you work in your free time. We just have to deal with it and try to overcome any issues that may arise.

So, we are purchasing new infrastructure to handle all our use cases, consolidate all our over-priced servers, and avoid the need for developers to pay out of their own pockets.

So how much will these new servers cost?

Our new planned server infrastructure will cost us less than $200 / month, for everything, which is quite a large difference. Over the next month or two, we will also be sorting out donations to make sure it covers everything properly, unlike before (it takes time to deal with this sort of thing properly, it's not something we can just flick a switch on). Our current donation goal of $250 / month will likely stay as is, so we can cover months with reduced income.

For those wanting to donate now, please hold onto your money for the time being. We will let you know when donations are going to the things you want to pay for. Since remedied this was in February

Another bonus of the new infrastructure will be multiple people having appropriate levels of access, so we don't run into a situation like last week where we can't do anything because certain people aren't responding.

Thanks Ploddit for helping! Donations are indeed always welcome, our server cost as promised are lower then what they were, but they still exist :) Every little bit helps! Maybe when AM has some more time available he can provide with another update.

I play PR once in a blue moon, but I dont to come back one day and see PR is no more.

What's the preferred way to donate? I heard there were problems not to long ago when the master server went down and you guys weren't getting any of the money. How do I ensure you guys receive the funds?

Regular donations through the website now go the right place where the correct people receive the money.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though :D

Have you considered something like a Patreon? I know their page code got jacked and a lot of data leaked, but nobody I follow on YouTube seems to care about that. Might be easier for some folks to "set and forget" a few bucks a month.

Yes, unfortunately I had to go back to my own funds last month as we were a bit short :( . Hoping there's some generous people still out there to keep things going.

We don't have any plans more than PayPal. You can do recurring "set and forget" donations with that too :)

Ah, I did not know that! I'll see what I can set up when funds are more stable. Can't commit to anything now, but PR .3-.8 was definitely the highlight of life back then, so I should definitely contribute *something*.

I had rather hopped for a decent reserve as a while back we had 2 very generous months, but I cant remember how long ago.

Anyway good job - share the word on servers - you without supporting member tags hang your heads.

Could we like squad go and use reddit a lot more - would that reduce forum costs?

Sounds like you are planning a bank job!

Good job to those who have helped out, when ancientman has had enough of paying for our game it'll be too late to cry about it.

Last month we scrapped our way to 130 - about half the target, sofar this month we are still big fat 0! All these guys paying loads for Squadand it hasn't even got a bloody Humvee ... yet.

I hope I don't have to start again as PR is going to be costing as much as Eve online (would but I don't have it tooo expensive @ 10 USD monthly).

Come on guys please help out a bit if you can or else one day it'll be gone.

Wow straight up to 110! What happened there? Do we have a lottery winner in our midst?

Great job whoever donated!

Just a question, sorry if I missed it.
But the money in the fundraising campaign, has it been transfered to the new admins AD and Mineral or AM?
Because that money was still donated to the old account is it? Would be a straight out shame if that well-raised money is lost, would like to have some clearity on that if possible.

Oh, when I am fully in the game again I will make sure to make another donation. I hope the people who not have donated yet feel the urge to contribute their part. I made a Paypal specially to be able to donate for PR and now the Paypal account still comes in quite handy with international payments. No regrets.

That money is still used today to pay for some remaining servers under the old setup like the forums. However all new services have been payed for by AM+donations+adds(not much from adds though :( ) . Not all servers are transferred yet;

Not any plans more than PayPal.
That's kinda sad.My clanmates decided to donate 10~20$/month two month ago. However, I can't use Paypal anymore for some reason.
If there is a direct donation via UnionPay, it will be great.
Now I am trying to ask my friends who can use Paypal to donate. :)
