21:9 monitor support

My post on suggestions was not approved so i am going to keep this short in case it wont be here either  :

Is there any way the devs could make it so there is real 2560x1080 resolution support?
You can select the resolution in the startup menu but what it does is it takes the 1920x1080 render, cuts of bottom and top of the FOV and fits it to 2560x1080 pixels.

What i mean is is there a way to give me more FOV to the sides like on other games instead of cutting of FOV on bottom and top?

I tried selecting the normal 1920x1080 resolution but that distorts the image instead of giving me black bars on both sides.

Thanks for your help (admin plz approve this where else am i supposed to post this ?!)

Have you tried changing it directly in Documenst/Projectreality/Profiles/000X/video, use Wordpad and SAVE. You will have to set system resolution to match before launching.

No i did not.

What exactly does it do does it give me the normal 1920x1080 resolution without distortion or does it give me the correct FOV with 2560x1080?

I guess it's fine to post this here too. Developers can see your suggestion - usually they just aren't made visible to the public unless discussion is desired.

As I think I mentioned ingame, I have my doubts we can do anything about this if BF2 doesn't support it to begin with, though someone experienced in this area could speak with more certainty. I haven't been able to find much about other BF2 players trying to play with this kind of monitor - anyone else here have one working properly?

Also, have you tried playing in 1920x1080 in windowed mode, or just in fullscreen?

Okay i tried running it in 1920x1080 borderless windowed mode now with the windows borderless gaming app linked in one of the threads in this forum.

The distortion is gone now but the taskbar is still blocking the lower part of the game and instead of black bars on the sides there is my desktop.
I also have trouble clicking the icons in the ingame menu now some of them cant be accessed, when i try to click them nothing happens everything is a bit messed up now.

Is there any possibility the game could be run in the native resolution of the monitor with the extra FOV?

You seem to have still ignored the previous suggestion of editing the text file.

But normal (bordered) windowed mode works, right?

Okay i tried it out but i wasn't able to change anything.

I dont really know how to use wordpad in that context (not very computer savvy),
can you please help me out and explain in more detail what i should do?

I have no idea if forcing would work but you open the profiles/video folder using wordpad write 2560x1080@60Hz then click on file then save.

Then change system res to match

If you have an nvidia card use the desktop resize option down to 1920x800 and the games will pick it up.

Thanks for the detailed description.

Okay i opened every video folder i could find in the profiles.

All of them were already set to 2560x1080@60hz, probably because i selected that resolution in the PR launcher already.

Widescreen fixer does work, you just need to create a hardlink to bf2.exe through cmd.

I'll create a video in a couple days.

Very happy to hear that :D

Thank you for taking the time to make a video!

In the video I:

1. Open installation directory of PR:BF2
2. Create a backup of prbf2.exe (actually important)
3. Rename prbf2.exe to bf2.exe
4. Open an administrative command prompt
5. cd (change directory) to PR:BF2 installation directory
6. mklink /H prbf2.exe bf2.exe

7. Download WideScreen Fixer (make sure to install dependencies)
8. Extract Widescreen fixer
9. Run Widescreen fixer
10. Configure Widescreen fixer (Do not set your FOV too high otherwise your game will crash)
11. Run PR:BF2
12. Use keyboard shortcut to enable or disable FOV fix while in a match (FOV is not set in the menus)
13. Have the video crashed by Windows Update :P

If it does not work the first time around read this:

14. Delete bf2.exe and prbf2.exe
15. Rename your prbf2 backup to PRBF2.exe (It's a good thing we made a backup!)
16. Continue from step 1. above

I've noticed Windows 10 is troublesome with this fix.
If after trying twice it does not work I will gladly help you with the best of my abilities.

Okay, i did everything exactly as you explained, everything went fine but PR still runs in the same FOV no matter what i change it to in widescreen fixer.

Maybe it is because i am running it on windows 10.
I will try your next suggestion now.

Thanks you for all the detailed info!

When you run prbf2, make it windowed temporarily so you can see the output from Widescreen fixer. It looks like it does at 2:29 in the video when it is working. If nothing changes and prbf2 is running, the fov fix will not work.

Yea, for whatever reason it doesn't work so well on Windows 10. I would uninstall the visual c++2010 runtime libraries and .net 4 and greater. Reboot your computer and install .net 4 and the visual c++2010 runtime libraries. Reboot again. Then, start from step 1. again.

Okay whenever i try to do the mklink prbf2.exe bf.exe in cmd now, there always appears the error message
'system wasn't able to find the indicated file' (translated it from german).

Also now if i try to start PR i get this error message:

8: Unable to find root BF2 Directory. Please reinstall Project Reality: BF2

Remove any bf2.exe and prbf2.exe files from your installation directory. Download this and extract it there. This is the original prbf2.exe. Tell me if you still get any errors while trying to run prbf2.

Make sure you cd into your installation directory before running mklink command. For example, mine would look like cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Project Reality\Project Reality BF2
