MEC MG3

Hello,
Been getting a shot at MEC squad machine gunner lately, and I have noticed one thing: Whenever I spawn with the MG, I always have two modes - deployed and not. However, on occasion I'll find an MG3 kit on the ground that only has one mode - deployed, seems like. It's only on your weapon select menu once. What's the deal with this kit?
(Also as an aside, I don't remember the MG3 being in PR back before I took a hiatus in very early .9 - what was it before?)

When you Spawn w/ the MG3 you are using the AR kit, you also get a 75 shots mag, but if you request the MachineGunner kit you also get an MG3, but w/ more ammo
This also happens to every other faction, but their Machine gunner weapons is different from the AR weapon, so you get a M240 for the MG and a M249 saw for the AR, for example
The MG3 is used on both for MEC, because the lightest thing on Iran arsenal is the MG3 (w/ 75 mags, light on Firepower), and the MG3 is already worth to be used for the Machinegunner, so they choose that on top of something like the PKM...
Also this give a Iran feel for Mec, instead of the BF2 Russian in Middle East feel

You have picked up the Machinegunner kit.
Before, it was the M21 or something, like aG3 modified into a machinegun, also found in vanilla BF2, one of the boister packs.

Yep, as the others said one is Automatic Rifleman kit, that you can spawn with, one per squad max. The other is Machine Gunner Kit, only available by requesting from crate etc. For MEC this is the same weapon, but other factions have distinct weapons for each kit.
MG is deployable only.
In the past MEC got an HK 21 E.
Cheers, Murkey.

Not actually 75 rounds a mag.
GenericFireArm meclmg_mg3deployed
ObjectTemplate.ammo.nrOfMags 7
ObjectTemplate.ammo.magSize 50
GenericFireArm mecmmg_mg3
ObjectTemplate.ammo.nrOfMags 4
ObjectTemplate.ammo.magSize 120

I readed somewhere that was a 75 mag, but being a 50 explain the need to reload every second, even if you try to conserve ammo

Ah, I'd not made the connect that it was the MG kit. For some reason I thought they'd another MMG. Not sure where I got that idea. Guess I was just expecting it to be a totally different weapon.
Now that you mention it, I do remember the G3-like MG. I guess I can get the Iran feel (though I miss the feel of modern, well equipped middle eastern faction we had when I used to play a lot)...except they're not speaking Persian, so...ya.

Is there a reason as to why the MG3 carries 120 rounds as opposed to 150-250?

The question is, why isn't it 100. That's the most commonly used box size for 7.62 MMGs.
There isn't any 150 round magazine for MG3 that I know of. 250 round magazine is meant for coaxial/mounted use in vehicles or defensive positions (bunkers etc). The sheer weight of a 250 round box filled with 7.62 on top of a 10 kilo weapon would be barely manageable in a mobile infantry squad. The magazine itself would already weigh around 5-6 kilos. I think that's why the British don't use 200 round boxes even on M249s with lighter ammo.

The MA's did their homework, 120 is the size that theyve encountered as the most common use in their research.
