Merkava: Why is noone using the laser guided ATGM with laser designator?

I've never seen it being used in game. Technically (that is IRL) Merkava can fire the ATGM from heavy cover and if the target is painted with a laser the ATGM should hit it.

Is it also that way in game? I mean, can anyone with a spotter kit paint a target with laser designator and after that can the Merkava shoot it's ATGM in a low angle (not aiming directly at the target) and it's laser guided rocket will hit the painted target by itself?

Info from wiki:

"[..] the target can be laser-designated by the launching platform (e.g. firing tank) or other platform (e.g. another tank, helicopter, UAV, or forward scouting team), requiring minimal exposure in the firing position. With a low launch signature, the missile?s trajectory can be set to match either (top attack) armoured fighting vehicle, warship, or helicopter gunship (direct attack) engagements."

One of the reasons is because there's no Top attack, the missile just goes straight to the laze even if there's objects in front.

Locking into the laze also requires having a sight of line so might as well attack with guided ATGM instead of relying on another squad leader to properly laze the tank.

Too much teamwork required.

or simply i don't think that many people know of it.

When I was driving for Moulin once a full squad was trying to laze us from behind cover, so Moulin lazed them back.
The bomb made the wrong choice.

It's more useful than you'd think. :)

Oh, right, for some reason I totally forgot about the line of sight thingy. Now it all makes sense. So basically if noone has ever used that mode it's kind of a gimmick that confuses new players.

The laser guided ATGM really is a bit of a gimmick. Could only see it being useful when someone managed to lase fast driving vehicle.
However it is quite nice to see lasers. It makes it easier to tell the Merkava where to shoot as infantry

Can most tanks see lazes (IRL)?

If they have the sensors to do, yes... but as the majory of tanks don't use ATGMs they don't really need to have the sensor

But I am probably wrong and every tank since the m1a2 has this ability

used last game as IDF on Iron Eagle.

the LT round can lock on before the Merc can actually see the target.

this allows you to shoot from general safety. It also allows you to shoot a tow while moving quickly. This makes you much harder to kill. not dying is good.
