Surrounding terrain not saving

Made a custom heightmap and ran the auto generator to mirror the surrounding terrain. When I load up my editor and import it in it shows up, however after I save it disappears again and need to be re-imported. I tried making changes to all patches so it would save it all when it saved complied terrain but to no avail. Any ideas?

What do you mean 'import it'? What auto generator are you using?

Did you activate those heightfields, maybe need to do that first, then save then import new ones ?

Bf2HeightmapGenerator.exe import/activate in terrain editor.

^ yep, and when I save and re open they are grey again.

Code: Select all

Heightmap filesize does not match expected size. 66049 != 1050625
Could not read expected size
Perhaps it is to complex and thus to large in size?

When I used Bf2HeightmapGenerator, I didn't import anything, run the .bat, it overwrites the surrounding terrain files and thats it.

Right but when I go to render them in the editor they are not there. So I go to import and activate and they show up, save and reopen editor and they will not load again.

Did you activate surrounding terrain before running heightmap generator?

Yes, it was active and working.

What size is the heightmap and what size is defined in the .con (257x257 vs 1025x1025)? Most likely your issues lies in those two not matching. Possible editor just uses some weird maximum. Did you check if the terrain shows up in game?

Tried a map with 257, one with 513 and one with 1025. Always heightmap data and hieghtmap raws have matched in size.

I think that error is something else because I had it before but can't remember what it was or how I fixed it

Seems to be the usual response to the issues I have.

From the error message it looks like he is trying to read a 1025x1025 but the file is only 257x257. I have no idea what limitations editor or heightmap in general has, just trying to interpret the error message.
Is any map using a 1025x1025 secondary heightmap?

A distant memory of mine might be the solution, the problem might be the size of the heightmaps you've made for the surrounding terrain, I think the autogenerator occasionally just clones the primary without resizing them to the right size. Was ages ago I had this error and I've been on night shifts, so could be total bollocks.

Dunno, but like I said I have tried 257 and 513.

I remembered, I had a map with a 512 primary heightmap but deleted it, then made a new map with exact same folder name but 256 heightmap and editor would keep throwing that error at me. I had to go with a new name.

So maybe your map name matches the name of an older map you created?

Seems like maps get cached somewhere but couldn't find it.

Try creating a new test map and see if the issue repeats.

Yeah I have done that a few times now to no avail.
