I've played PR since 2010, albeit on and off. I haven't played 6 years in a row, but I come and go every few months, sometimes weeks. At least for a few games. Sometimes I'll play for a month straight. In other words I love this game as much as I love Battlefield 2 which this game is based on.

But even today in 2016, nearly 2017. I'm still bad at this game. I know how to do everything more or less, speaking theoratically.. I'm not a noob in that regard, I know how things work in the game. But, I still suck at it. I barely ever ever get a kill, remarkable score. I'm usually killed way before I realize what is going on. Even if a know there is an enemy around the cornerand I aim down my ironsights, approach slowly. He's still going to kill me before I kill him. I understand you have to die sometimes, that's alright. But I watch Bluedrake42 for example and he's great at this game. But despite watching him I can never do what he does.

Most of the time I have to pick medic (nobody else wants to). My squad gets shot at, I heal them, revive them. As soon as I have to get into combat, I will die almost instantly to anything.

Biggest reason for me is dying out of nowhere and not seeing enemies. People will shoot at enemies but I can't see them for shit! I can't spot an enemy if he wore bright red clothing in a dark green forest. It's not a uniform thing I simply don't see them and once I see them I'm already bleeding out, black and white and yelling for a medic. I have no eye issues either.

How the hell do you get good at this game? Am I missing something?

If you're dying out of nowhere and not seeing enemies I'd try to slow the pace down a bit. Take your time and keep an eye on your map every so often. Don't rush into things, make sure your deviation has settled, generally take it slow(er).

At what resolution do you play on? Do you have anti aliasing enabled?

1080P, everything High, 2x Anti Aliasing.

I do tend to take it slow, I'm not a restless person and I don't run around aimlessly. Me being shot usually in fact happens when I'm just walking or crouched and checking the map. Most of the time the enemies see me before I see them and even if I see them first and open fire (after announcing), they'll just turn around and one shot me in the face. That's how it feels. Also maybe it's just me but people in this game take way too many bullets to drop, it takes like 6 bullets to kill a Taliban ..

Best advice . is to remember it's a real players .
Like no shit .
But I always think . where would I hide or where would I flank .
And In combat . think always if you were the enemy what would you do . and then do the opposite .
Secondly check it map always ( every 2 min)
Too see where are friendlys so you would know like where is safe and where not .
And lastly . get good fps . like really good fps thas mean you will see more easily .and your reaction will be faster

You need to get git.

Getting good FPS is not easy in a game that uses 1 CPU core, but technically requires more. For Intel users, this is easy because of Per Core Performance. But for AMD FX users, not so much. Their design is more cores, less power per core. I'm on AMD FX, I run most games nowadays at 60+ FPS at High except this one. I'm at 40 - 60 FPS but I'm upgrading to Intel enxt month. I don't think FPS is important fundamentally unless you're dropping into the low 20's.

In the past I would almost exclusively play either Medic or Squad Leader. Personally, I've found that being in one of those two modes actually makes me play a lot worse in terms of my twitch reflexes and related skills. My focus ends up being on other things, on comms, on my map and the positioning of the squad, on keeping myself safe so that I can revive/direct the squad etc. For the past year I've been playing roles outside my comfort zone and I think its made me more of a rounded player as a result.

My advice would be to try something different. If you play Medic in the majority of your games, spend a month playing as LAT, become an asset whore, whatever, get really into it, don't look back.

Another thing you might try is watching lots of different PR vids. Something I did when I was learning other games was to watch a lot of high level streams. You can learn a lot about your own playstyle by doing this, and you get a much broader perspective on what works and what doesn't than simply judging the game based on your own experiences and decisions. Apart from BD42, I would recommend:

Another thing you can try to do is actively seek out players who you know/think to be better than yourself and to play with them with the intent of learning from them. This was something I actively did when I learned to squad lead; I would check the Squad Leader Recommendation Thread and take any opportunity to play with those guys when I found them in game. I learned a hell of a lot doing that. You might consider joining the Project Reality Tournament, when the grunt signups open in a few days.

If you are really serious about improving; watch your own games back through via the battlerecorder (after it gets fixed anyways ).

Lastly, no matter what you're doing you need to have the right attitude. You need to question and analyse everything, your own decisions as well as others and try to evaluate whether they were good decisions in the moment, if there was a better option, and work out why you think that is the case.

spotting the enemy can be very hard, it takes alot of communication to locate a well concealed enemy.

If you really can't see them, just look for tracers, enemy or friendly, and generally shoot in the appropriate direction, you might well suppress an enemy at the right moment and let another friendly get the kill.

Play other FPS and then try inf combat in PR. I find it easier to hit shit after playing other FPS shooters and then PR.

Some tips:

Be a soundwhore. Footsteps can be heard very far. Get good headphones and increase your ingame volume to a point where you can still hear communications or use this.

Aim low. 5.56 guns need three rounds in the chest to down an opponent but only two in the legs for a kill.

Download test bootcamp and play around with the weapons and get a feeling for recoil, bullet drop and sight misalignment. (Scoped guns sometimes have this. Iron sights are usually spot on.) I still find myself training on this map regularly.

Honestly, most of the problems you have probably come from not being entrenched in fps games. Your reflexes will never be as good as the guy from your example if you don't consistently practice aiming. Not just turn on a game, have a few matches and hope you got better by trying your "best." I mean actually practicing. And analyzing. Like what do you do right and what do you do wrong compared to pro fps players and their ilk? And when I said consistently, I meant it. Not intermittently like your history with PR. I used to play games more sporadically when I used to hang out and party more, but nowadays I put the time in (consistently, not just overall) and I notice a big difference in my skill.

Now when it comes to my tips, they are simple and yours to do what you will with them. But one thing first, I like some of what Bluedrake makes, and he's a doll, but you need to realize that he is not very good at PR, he even says so. He is more about the military fantasy than using smart tactics, that's why in a lot of videos he ends up sitting in one spot for almost the whole match freaking out about enemies and his squad barely helping the team effort xD.

Tips: Only 3 basic categories to consider, Maneuvering, Defending, and Attacking.

Maneuvering
-know where it is you want to end up (which should always be cover/concealment), if you don't have a particular place in mind and a reason why, change that
-once you have the goal, "forget it" and focus on what you're doing in the moment, avoid tunnel vision on the goal, watch sectors
-Always move from cover/concealment to cover/concealment, with priority on cover
-never run out in the open, even if you think it seems safe, take the long way as the tip above
-only sprint when crossing from cover/concealment to cover/concealment, for example when moving through heavy forest it can be tempting to sprint (because look at all this concealment amirite) but if you stumble upon enemy you will be ill-prepared and most of the squad low or out of sprint so remember that c/c works for enemies too not just you
-if your squadmates aren't doing a good job watching their sectors or being careful in general, then stay on the edge of formation and keep an eye out for "backdoors" that you can use to break contact or flank the enemy

*Defending and Attacking have less since they rely on many of the same tips as Maneuvering.

Defending
-cut chatter, listen for footsteps, ropes, enemy vehicles, etc
-stay in c/c, but slyly keep eyes out in all directions, don't easily reveal your positions or your numbers
-medics should be given the least problematic sector to watch and should stay in a very safe spot, they are the heart of the squad
-when revived find good cover and wait 2 minutes before doing anything so that the revive timer expires and you can be wounded again
-worst comes to worst and the enemy is advancing regardless and eliminating everyone then don't shit yourself and waste time like every other squad, just hurry up, fall back and regroup in preparation for their continued advance or for your counterattack
-don't wait 10 years for revives if your team is already coming up short, just respawn to reinforce the frontlines and dig in to gain an advantage if they are more skilled, even if you don't turn the tide of battle at least both teams had a good game instead of a steamroll where one team gives up 1/4 of the way through

Attacking
-advance steadily, "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" is the classic axiom
-if you spot enemy positions before they spot you, then give the area a little recon with binos or scope before making contact, learn about possible emplacements, vehicles, etc
-remember that it doesn't hurt to request support, worst case scenario they say no, so ask for apc's, tanks, cas, and area attacks to help soften up entrenched enemy positions that you find
-never actively engage targets from a position of disadvantage, work on breaking contact and secretly flanking the enemy to attack from an advantageous position, if it takes a while to find or get to an advantageous position then so be it, it's worth it, meanwhile the enemies are still trying to locate you, wasting their time and most likely grenades too
-take the scenic route, and by that i particularly mean really flank the hell out of enemies, for example pass west to east at a far distance south from an objective so you can both hit the south-east corner of that objective AND hassle the enemy reinforcements coming in from the east, instead of just doing a short flank and hitting the side (which usually results in the flanking force getting partially sandwiched by enemies :shock

Where are you guys getting the idea that I don't play other FPS games from? I play still to this day BF2, BF 2142, I've played BFBC2, BF4, BF3. I don't play CoD. I play Red Orchestra, Rising Storm.. I play quite a few FPS games and have no problems actually. It's just with PR.

Sorry OP, we meant no offense, it's just that since you were saying you could be holding an angle and still almost always be the one to die, and that you die all the time without seeing where or why that led us to believe that. You shouldn't have those problems in PR if you aren't also having those problems in Red Orchestra. The only other thing I can think of is you don't understand the accuracy mechanics in PR. When you aim, at the bottom of the screen above the compass you will see two blocks that slide together or apart depending on your movement. If they are together, your shot goes where you aimed. If not, then your shot goes wherever it damn well pleases basically. Don't move and shoot AT ALL unless in CQC or just suppressing.

You need to take the game slow, but the combat fast.
Being faster than the enemy will surprise them 9 times out of 10.

The enemy EXPECTS you to peak out of that corner sighted in.
Instead: go on the rooftop above him, go around the building, throw a grenade, shoot the corner as you turn it(for supression), or just cross the corner and hipfire.

Unlike other games, this game actually has an actual trained soldier, he knows how to control the recoil of his weapon!
Always flank if you can, always. Nothing bad comes from it except a bit longer of a walk(as I said, game slow, combat fast).

If someone takes 6 rounds, you must be hitting them in the legs or really unlucky. Always aim for triangle mass(bit lower from shoulders to head), and when clearing places you should always have your weapon centered at that level.

Sometimes, when the enemy is dug in and engaging you from a bunker, just run in there and hope he doesn't peek out and shoot you. Do the unexpected and you will get rewarded once suceeding. You will learn your enemy throughout each game and how they operate, then you must find a way to counter them. The reason why I don't see so many skirmishes is because I take my squad on the constant move. If someone fires at you down the road in Fallujah West, you can fire back, but only for 5 seconds before flanking around to the right and sending 8 men against a small fortified house's flank.

I don't know how you operate in this game, but your issue might be something as simple as not running to cover when shot at.

Always remember, when contacted(and this is assuming the enemy gets the drop on you), run to cover(if you were running across the street, keep running unless you're out of spring.), assess(find out where the enemy is, once you know where he is, then move to the last options), engage(if you find the enemy is shooting at you from a compromised position/for whatever reason you must go down into his field of fire, you can engage.), evade(flank around and hit them where it hurts/break contact and continue to the objective instead of wasting time taking out a possibly useless threat)

Practice more

Or join Project Reality Tournament. There will be basic training and some advanced courses. Also you will gain taste, how it is to play in organized game.

I always try to keep this in mind especially if I play AR. It's not always possible when enemies pop up suddenly though.

I always join a squad with the mentality that I'm gonna take a LAT, Rifleman or Grenadier. Then the SL will ask "Who wants to be medic?" And usually, everyone is quiet, very quiet. Occasionally someone will say "I'll take the medic" but very rarely, people will take the second medic so I basically have to. People dont like this kit since it brings lots of responsibility with it.

Yeah i agree with you OP, the stabilization system is not something i agree with and is far from the reality of using a rifle. I suppose it just helps stopping people from doing unrealistic follow up shots at long range, but i wouldn't really know. But as long as that's the system you just have to take advantage of out maneuvering your opponent instead of out shooting them. At least that's my honest opinion but i could be wrong.
