Hey all,

First Post etc.

right i was installing the new version to my other folder on my second HDD and realized it didn't make a folder so i went to uninstall it and when i did it unintalled every other game i own. so not sure if it was this uninstaller as it was the last think i touched before it happened so i suggest being careful will fully look into it to see if it was definitely this but just be careful.

UPDATE 1: Just rebooted and checked all logs, and yup the uninstaller has uninstalled 800GB worth of games/mods from my hard drive. again make sure the installer creates a folder if you don't want it happening to you.

Man that sucks :( I'm so sorry this happened to you. Indeed the lesson for all is to always install in it's own folder.

You can use one software to recovery your files. Just dont touch on the disk until the files is recovered.

recommending this to be included in installing instructions

preferable installation is in C / project reality

but if you choose to install in other like D: make sure to create a folder first before installing called Project Reality or so

maybe you can include in the installer an option where you a forced to choose or create a folder at the process of installing

Just to add another case. It happened to me too just yesterday where it wiped ~400 GB of games. Luckily it seems to be all expendable data.
I had an older version on my laptop, that couldn't update through the launcher. So I choose to reinstall, and used the uninstaller. The twist is that I don't think I did anything wrong which differs from OP. My folders are quite organized. The path was called D:\Installationfolders\Games\Project Reality. It deleted D:\Installationfolders\Games just like that, in an instant, without me realizing it for hours, during which time my computer was hard at work overwriting the deleted files with automatic download by a game that just lost it's cashe.

I tried a recovery tool; Recuva. The scan looked great, found a lot of files, but was unable to recover anything but an old Counterstrike 1.6

What version I had is quite critical for this thread, I know, but I cannot verify it. I think it was v1.3. Maybe it's safe now (with v1.7), but I wouldn't dare risk it: I will probably use uninstall by windows for every program in the future.

I just think you should know that PR may still have a red hot file in the game folder that may do a lot of damage.

Some perspective of an unrelated game with a related issue, discussed technically:
