I know this question has been asked a million times and your annoyed by now but is pr2 still an idea you devs have in mind (and no squad doesn't count because that isn't pr) if so i was wondering if i could help i'm sure the entire community would love to help as well i know it was in development awhile ago and stopped so is that the end?

Edit:This isn't a tread about asking when its coming out i was just wondering if they would like some help not trying to nag about progress or anything.

No, not in anyone's mind that I know of. Squad is your best bet and closest thing currently, there are some other mods for Arma as well that have been made to capture the feel of PR (don't play ARMA so I don't know).

PR2 development died ages ago and is no longer in the works by anyone that I know of.

Is anyone up to start i would like to try since i'm seeing a lot of "because refractor engine" blocks on a lot of suggestions i know a lot of devs are already busy but i think it would be a nice side project.Just a few people with a little time can do a lot.

Here's the thing with that, and while I obviously can't speak for the PR BF2 devs, what I can tell you is that in game design (or with design in general) the concept of "side projects" is a myth.

A project is a project. It takes time (lots and lots of it) and a lot of work (even more of it). The fact that even a fraction of the stuff that was done with the Refactor engine works in the capacity that it does in PR is incredible.

Squad isn't exactly PR on a new engine but it's probably the closest thing we're going to get for the time being. Personally, I prefer PR (which I'm sure is the case for more than a few of us) and the engine that it's on doesn't necessarily bother me. If it starts to bother the devs enough to want to build an entirely new PR from scratch on a new engine, I'm sure they'll let us know.

If only :p

You do realise JUST to make the PR:BF2 mod, took a lot of people giving up a lot of their free time, over 12 years to make?

Its probably save to say that the amount of work that went into PR in total, exceeds most of nowadays major AAA games many times.

Families were lost over this mod.

Squad has all the shit PR did not have, fulltime game developers, financial funding etc. and after multiple years its still far from PR standards. How is a side project with a fraction of the available workforce supposed to top that.

I would love to see PR mod for Squad

Because current state is still far behind PR standards. Like whole spawning, Medics dying and its GG for squad. It does not have core things of PR. Yeah, terrain and models are neat, but mechanics of the game are meh. Current logistics system is meh. This whole point system is not good. Need them physical crates, to feel you got logistics running.

I am still hoping to see major changes during Alpha stage.

Also - Grozny Squad version would be AWESOME!!!

Don't forget that Falklands just released and there's still people working on PR:WW2.

If you have money you can hire people to do PR 2, I guess it will take less than 12 years then.

I know PR took a long time to get to where it is today i'm not new.I was just proposing that we start on something for a different engine (a pr mod for squad is a really good idea btw hadn't thought of that but there are problems with optimization for squad rn) and see where it goes from there i wasn't proposing replacing pr or saying making it is easy damn i was just curious no need to bash me into the ground.I was just really unhappy at the way squad handle there take on pr (not bashing them btw i just don't agree with some of there game mechanics).

Also does anyone happen to know what engine the former PR2 team was supposed to use?

I want to say they were working with Cryengine, but I dunno if they really ever showed anything off.

Unity or UE4 are the popular ones.

imo, screw PR2 for now, it'll need a lot of money for development, probably a kickstarter, then a backer page and other stuff.

PR is still PR but I really want to play the same 3 maps over and over in WW2, so please have an event soon ;-;(no sarcasm at all, I really loved the feeling of commanding so many troops and finding random soldiers from random squads to follow my command.)

edit: what I mean is.. I loved the organization prior to the assault, and the chaos during the assault.

It was cry engine for PR2. Twistedhelix was leader of the team. Some progress was made like some maps started, some objects modeled, but Cry engine required more extensive knowledge, and it was really hard to find people with necessary knowledge about it.

Also team lacked people that understood PR idea so it just fell apart.
