The Avenger weapon system is a lightweight, day or night, limited adverse weather FU employed to counter low-altitude aerial threats. The FU consists of two turret-mounted standard vehicle mounted launchers (SVMLs), a machine gun, a forward looking infrared (FLIR) sight, a laser range finder (LRF), and an identification, friend or foe (IFF). The gyrostabilized turret is mounted on the high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV). The FU can launch a missile or fire the machine gun on the move or from a stationary position with the gunner in the turret. It can also be remotely operated from a location up to 50 meters away.
Sensors
The sensor package includes an optical sight, FLIR, LRF, IFF, and a fire control computer. With these sensors, the Avenger can acquire and track targets in any battlefield environment, such as darkness, dust, smoke, or adverse weather.
FLIR. FLIR provides enhanced acquisition capability in various environments: night, smoke, rain, background clutter, and haze. The automatic video tracker (AVT) is a subsystem of the FLIR. The AVT provides autotrack of the FLIR targets

Global security, AVENGER PLATOON OPERATIONS AND ORGANIZATION
Targets are acquired either by using the optical sight or the Raytheon AN/VLR-1 Avenger FLIR (forward-looking infrared). The FLIR sensor is fitted to the left launch beam and is boresighted to the aiming point of the missile pod. The FLIR has three fields of view - wide, narrow and a rain mode.
Army-technology, Avenger Low Level Air Defence System, United States of America
The North Dakota Guard selected the Avengers for the “observation” mission not only because of the launchers’ night-vision equipment, but also owing to their enclosed, heated cabins, Prokopyk said. Taking into account wind chill, winter temperatures in North Dakota can dip below negative 40 degrees.

I believe it's about the heated cabin part.

No, actually I want it to flip more, read the source:
The Avenger fire unit is top-heavy. Exercise extreme caution when operating the system on steep grades and side slopes. The driver must observe driving restrictions on the vehicle instrument panel, and not drive on side slopes greater than 22 degrees.

Amazing how much technology can do in these days...

I love the way he quote all the info and let everyone guess what he is trying to tell us.

Well would it be any different if he wrote the same text with different words? It's not easy to miss the point. I can count about 9 occurrences where FLIR is mentioned.

I thought you didn't want to buff AA more?

Or is this whole thread ironic - I don't even know anymore.

AA won't become anymore effective against aircraft just because thermals are added, silly.
It would be more effective against ground targets.

Hes not buffing AA more. AAV's like the Tunguska/Shilka/M163 can shred APC's. All this is really doing is bringing this more inline with the rest of the crazy wacco AAVs.

For future reference linking evidence/facts and showing no argument/statement is really damn confusing for 80% of the people here, because we(and i) do not know what you are implying.

I don't see a problem with avenger having more elevation, though.

It would seem there's quite a few of them that do have FLIR for the gunner. A few sources note it has FLIR and a few say some Stormers do not have it and that it would be optional for the vehicle. Here's pictures of them that do have thermal sights for the gunner.
