Startup PR problem

OK, this has just started happening.

When I try to start PR it begins normally - the small screen with the BF2
image thingy shows up, but is *white* (blank) and when I move my mouse over it it vanishes and generally, CTD. It takes anywhere between 1 and 12 attempts to successfully start PR. Same with vBF2 (which I don't actually play anymore). Also the startup times are longer, whether going on to start the game or going to CTD.

p4 3.4 duo
4 gig ram (technically, 2 in windows)
512 meg graphics, Nvidia 7900 GeForce GT/GTO, using TweaksRus Drivers (no previous issues)

21" monitor running 1600*1200 at highest BF2 settings

These problems are recent - like a week or so...
Before that I installed Ausforces (that wouldn't do this to PR ?)
and I installed the Greasy Mullet SP map (no way that is doing it...)

Any help much appreciated...
:)

File fragmentation.

Comprehensive defrag of system and disk files with PerfectDisk fixed it.

You can defrag with XP's built-in, it was made by Diskeeper for MS years ago. Slow but hey, it's free.

On that note I recommend Diskeeper (Pro Premier 2007), better user interface than PD. It's pretty smart, defrags efficiently, fast, multi disks at once, watch it work. I defrag after installs or once a day usually, speeds up load times significantly. And BTW, the Vista built-in defrag is a joke..
