New player- was playing in the PIT server, everytime i tried to join the map EJOD Desert I immedately crash to desktop and have to restart PR.


For some reason I cannot play this map- any suggestions or know why this is happeneing?

Go to your game settings, Video, Terrain to medium.
That solves it.

Now how about this one, the big wide open maps play great, but as soon as you put me in a little city or medium map with alot of building of stuttter lag which makes the game impossible to play-
I have a GeForce FX5500 card.

I never had this problem in Vanilla....ITs weird

that's the problem in itself..

And vanilla isn't as indepth and well constructed as alot of these maps..

SO no fix? I turned all the graphics way down and updated the driver- now I have CTD problems alot latley, and the stutter lag is just terrible.

I got a gig of ram and a geforce, i didn't think I would have these problems.

The CTD afaik happens to all nvidia video cards bellow 6200 series I think. It happens only in some maps in particular, with the "Failed to Lock surface" error. For me it happens in Al Basra, Ghost train, Mao valley, there are a few more I can't remember.

Goto your local computer store - and buy a Gforce 7900GTX 512mb.
Then you have exactly the same card as the guy who made EJOD desert..

that should help.

Anyway - the newest card is about..
GeForce
8800GTX
768MB GDDR3

It's a quantum leap from a FX5500 - with 128mb or 256mb... remember that..
quantum leap - or lead....It's definetly another class..

So you might consider upgrading your gear again - im sorry.
Or set it to medium.. Else I hope EJOD desert will function in v5.0 for everyone..
I myself play it on full detail - and have no problems..
Other than - I keep getting shoot!!

I had a FX5800 two years ago.
And a FX5600 about 3 years ago.

that should give you an idea what you are up against.
or what is happending in the world of PC gear.

Yeah the 5500 series is ancient.

If you don't have the money go pick up an ATI Radeon 9550, cheap, and it works for me.. I'm about to upgrade soon though cuz that card is just as ancient. And NVidia is 10x betta

and its even playable in japan, one local server and one more server with just 180 in ping.

anyhow same problem as the topic creater, i am a cheap ******* or at least a poor one, got a fx5200, plenty of ram though. my question, does anyone got a fairly cheap card, perhaps 6200 or corresponding ati or even cheaper card, and still get it to work?

unfortunately my rig cant use nice cards like 7600 or above, have tried and failed miserably.

6800 GT should do the trick okay.
I had 6800 GT before my 7900 GTX - And I think It ran PR and BF2 very nicely.

The 6800 GT was a turning point from the 5xxx series.

I actually had a 6800 GT when I started creating EJOD desert..PCI-E

I bought a 7900 GTX
So I can run games/Editor with out lags and FPS problems (Frames per second.)
in new games like Medieval total war II.

thx for ur answer thomazz, however i am not sure that my rig can handle the 6800 GT.

i reckon i just need to buy a new platform, seeing that me old bird is now 3 years old, and pretty much in original shape.

errr. tried to play OGT for the 1st time online in .5
Crashed when finished vairifying client data.

I keep CTDing when trying to load EJOD. Terrain is at high, doesn't CTD for other maps.

wierd .. never came up in testing .. need to hear from some other folks cuz there's a good possibility that the server is running v0.4 ?

Nah it was thors and all the devs and testers were in there. Never had any problems with ejod in the test builds, and I tried a complete reinstall of .5. I dono Terrain at high btw lol.

Well I won $150 in an office super bowl pool- SO looks like Im going out tonight and getting the GeForce 7600GS

I'll be killing good in .5 in no time.
