Does it bother anyone else? - Map choices.

Out of all the maps we have, we basically always only play 5-7 of them?
We need more maps and people to open up to more variety for game play.

That is due to the playerbase. Bulk of the players only want to play certain AAS maps or insurgency. Therefore most servers will only run "populistic" maps in fear of losing a bunch of players if they pick more special map. This problem didn't exist few years ago, it's down to the new and more casual playerbase.

Every now and then you see servers picking "different" maps which will empty the server down to 60-70 players after most players join other servers just to play that same age old Fallujah West. Playerbase is what it is.

Good Afternoon,

I disagree. The playerbase is not to blame. It is a mix of 60% admin favorite maps and 40% of what the playerbase suggests.

To simplify it, the maps that are not played require thinking, work, strategy, teamwork, and don't have the razzle/dazzle shock'n'awe assets.

Al Basrah (2 km) - Fun
Battle of Ia Drang (2 km) - eh
Burning Sands (4 km) - cool
Fools Road (2 km) - uh
Jabal Al Burj (2 km) - yey

PR server map rotation for a day 101:

-Fallujah INS
-Muttrah AAS
-Saaremaa AAS
-Khamisiyah AAS
-Gaza INS

If 3/5 of these maps isn't played daily on a server, it's a dead server.

Most balanced maps in the pool aren't they? Both infantry and vehicle action. Very well put together, having detailed surroundings.

Khamisiyah and Saaremaa, sometimes Gaza and Muttrah too can be very unbalanced. Granted, EU servers currently struggle with balance extremely often. Though Yablochko has these same problems but even more pronounced, like Russian servers always have in PR. With extremely light rules, even bigger player skill variance than EU or USA, trolls or no mic players, and very little teamwork. These issues might affect the stats you brought up.

Of course some maps like Beirut or Burning Sands can highlight the team differences with steamrolls happening due to inherent flaws in the map but this can be said at different levels for 80% of PR maps. It is still not a reason to nearly entirely exclude them from the rotation. That is what is currently happening and why this thread is here.

The real answer to solve this is to work hard on team balance after a major loss while considering the players, situation, and circumstances instead of taking the comfy shortcut of setting the same maps every time.

True, but I don't see it happening nor have I've seen it happen throughout the years. The most sad and pathetic truth is most players rather stay on the steamrolling winning side rather try to do something. It's not solely limited to PR, it's in every other multiplayer teamwork oriented game I've played. Only strong rules and nearly blind implementation could change something and in the same time piss off the general (idiot) population.

Did PRTA get rid of steamrolling? Nope. They did not(but they've managed to get rid of playerbase). Are HOG rules considered "strong"? I've been there yesterday and witnessed 500-0(or something like that) Dovre steamroll, before that somewhat similar happened on Burning sands.

Enforcing "teamwork" will result in people leaving your server. And it's not because "general population" is idiotic but because you're dumb enough to think that this general population is that intereseted in THAT amount of teamwork.

Clans are good. This is what supposed to be considered as a nice way of enforcing anything. It's complicated but if you can make people to form clans and to stay on your server you can achieve something. Not by building Gulags, but creating communes. Inb4 anti-commie hatred it's just a prank, bro, just an example.

They can be unbalanced indeed, but "sometimes" is okay enough for me. Yeah, I understand that it's not the reason to get rid of "unbalanced" maps but they can be rolled only once per evening or shit will hit the fan.

Too often? Like... you mean almost always? I was playing some rounds on SSG and HOG recently and it was steamrolling all the way but maybe it's me who got lucky.

I don't know about the USA servers as I don't play on them but with Euro servers the playerbase has been in serious decline for last 2-3 years. This in turn had killed the "old" teamwork & coordination focused servers and given room for servers with less emphasis on balance, wide map rotation and coordination. This new wave of PR players are not interested in playing wide variety of maps, they are more like the old BF2 skrubs who only wanted to play Karkand and Wake Island.. Admins of some servers take notice of this and thus only play the popular maps to avoid losing players.
