Helho everyone.

So l recently started flying like 2 months ago but l still cant figure out whats the proper way to flare. l usually dont get the AA kit because l play mostly as medic so l dont have much knowlodge or how to shoot down choppers to base myself.

It always seems kind of random, even if l flare as soon as l get locked and sometimes even get shoot if pre flaring so l would like to ear your tips

Also if its diferent on CAS choppers let me know because l dont take the CAS on those games where no one takes it because l have no knowledgment on how to flare properly

You're right. It is random.

AA is kinda fucked up right now so your best bet is to hit that X key when you think that AA might be present and spam it as fast as you can when you are being locked on. Other than that, you should pray to whichever god you believe in and do not sin.

Fly low, like 1 meter above the ground when possible
When getting locked on make aggressive evasive maneuvers
spam flares
pray
(optional: help us fix the game :P )

Good luck,

The thing is, does anyone know how flairs actualy work irl?
Cuz the AA irl from US vs Soviets was based who could get more information on how to target each others aircraft.
On one side we have that US gave Stingers to Afghan terrorists during the Afghan Soviet war. Then Soviets captured it so that they can make their aircraft immune to it.
Then we have downing of each others airctaft during the cold war.
Any videos people would share?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infrared_homing

To put it as simply as possible, IR Missiles home in on heat sources, such as the engine exhaust or the engine itself etc, and since flares give off a lot of heat when they burn, IR missiles can get confused and track them instead of the aircraft's heat source...

it sucks that you locked in the cas before he flared , the missile goes to the flares instead

What works for me if I'm getting locked I pop around 8 flares and keep going forward. If you are in a cas helo try to always dive on the target while pre flaring ( not with hind anymore :P ). Also what I do after I get locked and the aa misses, I try to pop a flare every couple seconds while going back to main. Pretty sure Alon is working on new aa so this might change (pls).

can't we replica the flare system in real life or allow us to fly higher can we already can, I'm pretty sure in real life you won't be seeing any aircraft flying a couple thousand feet off of the sea but more like 32 thousand (FL320) or more off of the sea, seeing as I don't know the scale, I'm poofed.

Other than that, we could probably change the amount flare to 90 or 120 because of chaffs and such, making you pop 4(chaffs and flares) instead of just 2 (flares only).

Don't we use Fox 3 (Target Locking) missiles now-a-days or something because Fox 2 (IR) can result in friendly fire or something.

The main problem in the game is lag(hostile operator lock you and fire, because of lag you get a signal of locking late and boom). In rl most missile systems cannot lock you if you fly low.(in the game does not exist).Game engine works on system:
-If the operator lock the plane and shoot, plane going down.
-If the operator seeking plane and waiting for locking(and you drop flare you are safe).Because he can only lock flares.(locking system on game, lock nearest target)
-So it's the most important time between seeking and locking(which can be adjusted in game engine)
-In the middle between the two(seeking,lock/shoot) if you drop flares you are safe.

That's why BF2,BF3,4 they put 3 sounds (seek ,lock, shoot),seek to know that someone is watching you, lock to know that someone is lock you,and last one rocket incoming. Here's a lottery :)

IR missiles are still used today but only really for short-range engagements.

Radar guided (Fox 3) missiles are the more common these days, for most Air to Air and Surface to Air missiles but and these missiles in r/l are not countered by flares in r/l but Chaff and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM, IR missiles are also susceptible to some types of ECM such as the "Disco Ball").

The problem we have with the BF2 engine is we are limited to only three types of "target". These being:
  • Heat - what Air to Air & Surface to Air can lock onto and track
  • Lase - what Air to Ground Missiles and Laser Guided Bombs track
  • Unique - What CLOS weapons follow such as the Blowpipe and also "Wire Guided" Anti-Tank weapons track. This type of target can also not be attached to a vehicle (like the Heat Target is attached to an aircraft) or fired from a SOFLAM (like the laser target is for AtG weapons to lock onto is) and is only visible to the person firing it, and only with that weapon at that time, hence why its called a "Unique Target" as it is unique to that player and his weapon.
As such we have been forced to have all Air to Air & Surface to Air missiles, regardless of them being IR or Radar tracking missiles (with the exception of CLOS missiles), have to lock a heat target, and also all be susceptible to "Flares", although tbh that isn't that unrealistic since most modern aircraft are capable of dispensing both Flares and Chaff (and ECM on top of that) and commonly are dispensed together as well.
Probably why they got shot down.
'wiki' wrote:Infrared seekers are passive devices, which, unlike radar, provide no indication that they are tracking a target (although there are some missile detection devices that can detect a launch). This makes them suitable for sneak attacks during visual encounters, or over longer ranges when used with a forward looking infrared system or similar cuing system. This makes heat-seekers extremely deadly; 90% of all United States air combat losses over the past 25 years have been due to infrared-homing missiles. They are, however, subject to a number of simple countermeasures, most notably dropping flares behind the target to provide false heat sources. This only works if the pilot is aware of the missile and deploys the countermeasures, and modern seekers have rendered these increasingly ineffective even in that case.

Updated US attack helicopters have an automatic flaring system much better than common handheld aa technology and would be super OP in project reality lol

Thanks a lot for every one responses !!!!

Defenilly helped me out a lot! There are far less moments were l get shot down by AA now or l face the complain of people of dying in my chopper :D

Really looking foward for the update 1.6 to see what get diferente!
