*Sorry, I forgot to mention that I thought the map file name was incorrect because when creating a local game "Operation Thunder" appears out of alphabetical order in the AAS map list.

Yeah, it's because the alphabetical order of maps depends on level name in 'levels' directory and name of a file level_name.desc (these 2 have to be the same or map is gonna crash).
The name of the map that you see in-game depends on localization files and a name stated in .desc file.

The reason of these names being diffrent is a decision made during map development to change the name. It was changed only in localization files tho.

Still, though... not a bug.

SucharMistarz, I think I understand but can this error be fixed?

Image

Veterans-Gaming, I don't know what constitutes a "bug" but I'm pretty sure Operation Thunder wants to be with its friends lower in the list.

Image

Arab, will this be fixed? Will you enlighten us about the feature mentioned?

In the levels folder, Operation Thunder's file is listed as "iron_thunder."

I don't know where the local game AAS map list is alphabetically generated from but it could be from here.

If possible, I also think it would be nice to polish up the rest of the map file names with a standard naming convention. These are the changes necessary so they all follow the majority 'map_name':

albasrah_2 ---> al_basrah
gaza_2 ---> gaza
muttrah_city_2 ---> muttrah_city
op_barracuda ---> operation_barracuda
qwai1 ---> qwai_river
route ---> route_e-106
shijiavalley ---> shijia_valley

If the version number is desired then it can be left but it should then also be shown in-game via that fancy mumbo jumbo SucharMistarz was talking about.

So theres a couple reasons why it's not going to be renamed.

First and most importantly, renaming it could cause a bunch of errors in SVN and likely in prbuild.
Secondly, If its renamed, when the next patch comes out. Everyone will have to delete "iron_thunder" and redownload it as "operation_thunder".
Thirdly, Its not an issue. Its not going to cause the next harvest to fail or an entire generation to die.

Okay so, first, I don't know what SVN or prbuild is. Second, is redownloading something in order to fix it a problem? Third, I understand that this does not cause any issues for multiplayer servers, which is most important. However, the alphabetical error does seem amateurish, no offense of course. I just don't understand the complexity of the matter but am optimistic for a solution.

Don't worry about SVN or prbuild, and don't worry about the map names. Just go play the game and have fun. A solution is not coming because it's not a bug (it's a feature being an inside joke) and there are more important areas to focus on in the development of PR.

People have already tried to explain the technical evolution that caused such non-issues to arise.
Let it go and play the video game. Cheers!

Veterans-Gaming, that attitude has left us with this currently:

...What is SVN and prbuild? Isn't there a programming command that can just replace all "iron_thunder" with "operation_thunder" or whatever in the code or wherever necessary to fix the one map name out of order in the list?

People have tried to explain why it's actually better to keep it this way for now. But you persist to get more information and more detail. Why? What do we owe you?

The biggest thing to remember is that when we make a patch it isn't capable of recognizing renamed folders. Meaning when it sees that iron_thunder is gone and operation_thunder is there now, it will remove the iron_thunder folder and add the operation_thunder folder. Meaning that when you download said patch, it will include the entire operation_thunder folder, not just a command to say 'Rename this folder please'. Not to mention that it isn't an actual folder rename, there are dozens of files within the map folder that also have mentions of the map name which would also need changing.

This has a few issues:
-Building patches (PRBuild) can be prone to errors and issues. Some of this are down to are down to the big and complex nature of our repository (we use SVN for our revision control and repository management). So to not have to change an entire map (which on itself holds hundreds if not thousands of files) means not being possibly having to fix many possible issues.
-This will increase the patch with the entire size of iron_thunder for no reason. Given our next patch is v1.6, which will hold the entirity of WW2, we don't feel it is necessary to add another 50/100mb or more to that just to fix your bug.

So if we ever do fix it, it will likely be when we already know we will do heavy changes to the map (when it goes out of BETA for example) and when we don't already have a massive patch.

That's a 240 word explanation for one of the smallest bugs ever. If you expect that for every little thing we do somehow oweyou a large answer with every detail you are mistaken. If you keep this up by annoying our team with questions to which you feel you entitled to the the answer somehow (otherwise why would you make another thread for an already answered bug report), your 5th? 6st? duplicate account will also get banned.

Just stick to reporting the bug and let us deal with how to fix it and when to fix it. And when we don't have the time or interest to give an explanation as to why, deal with it.
