Hey guys,

Anyone of you can give me a quick small guide how I can install two versions of PR on the same computer WITHOUT corrupting each one of it in any way?

What important things do I have to consider?

Thank you!

regards,
pwner

Install the 2nd PR somewhere else than the 1st one?

Install PR ver 1.x > copy the entire Project Reality folder to somewhere.
Update your PR (that one on the "original folder" to the version you want.

Yes i remember i did this before and it worked for a while, but then there was some issue.
I think C:\Users\user\Documents\ProjectReality can be an issue because it seems like both installs will use those same folders instead of using their own separate ones. So i think an update to one of the installs could break it.
Any solution other than virtual machine?

Make copies of the PR folder in documents?

The goal is for both versions to be functional indefinitely. One for recording/viewing demos or doing performance comparison tests and the other one for playing the newest release.
Making backup copies of folders is common sense, but it would be nice to find a solution that allows for both installs to coexist without interfering with each other.

Well, best I can offer is to rename them every time you want to launch a specific version

excellent suggestion by Alon

Or craft up a little executable script that does this for you, changes the folder name, launches the .exe you wish - could have one do both with a choice box, or two separate double-click exe's or shortcuts to them, for each version you want to launch. I realize not everyone is familiar with scripting, etc, but from a self taught amateur, gotta say this is super easy to google through it with examples from places like StackExchange. The way I learn a new method for any new language is to google starting with the language, then what I want to do.

Examples for going down that road:
"Powershell How to rename folder"
"Powershell How to execute an application"
"Powershell simple choice GUI"
"Powershell How to copy files to a folder"
"Powershell How to create .exe from .ps1"

I installed an older pr version (1.5.0.0) from the torrent site. Tryin to launch it but it keeps immediatly shuttin down "Cleaning up ressources". Tried to run it in windowed mode to get an error message, but error messages are not appearing.
